UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI E.
JOHN A. TILLERY, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND SAMUEL A. EWALT, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN-SOLDERING-TOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,119, dated May 21, 1872.
Specification describing an Improvement in Soldering-Tools, invented by JOHN A. TIL- LERY, of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland.
The invention consists in centering the soldering-tool with a rod which has a vertical end perforation provided with a side aperture, so that while the soldering-tool is itself enabled to move in a perfect circle from this axis or center of motion the air from within the can still freely escapes.
Figure 1 is a'vertical section. Fig. 2 is a top view of the cap.
A represents a centering-tool rod provided with a handle, B. The lower end of this rod may have a section removed or a channel formed therein; but I prefer to have an axial perforation, a, cross aperture a and a conical end, a G represents the top of a can, on
which is to'be soldered a cap, D. Inthe center of this cap there is generally made a central opening, (I, for the escape of air and steam from within. After the can has been supplied with its intended contents this hole is stopped.
The use of a center-piece as ordinarily constructed would stop this necessary vent and cause a forced outlet at some other point.
Hence the shanks of ordinary crow-feet holders, or those having other forms of bearingsurface, have been alone relied upon to afi'ord a center of motion.
Now, by my construction of centering-rod with a tubular end and side outlet a reliable centering-tool is obtained, while a holder sliding over it, as well as the soldering-iron itself, is maintained always in the exact position desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The centering-tool for soldering-irons,provided with end perforation a and cross-aperture (L as and for the purpose described.
JOHN A. TILLERY.
