"The nature ofmyinvention consists `in placing `the seatof thechair withinia frame which is "attached or suspended by pivots to i j thebody of the chair. j turn or rnovein accordance with the motions y To enable othefsskined in the rt to funy understand `and construct my inventionI will proceed to describe it.
A, represents th base of the chair forrned of curved legs attached to a center post br block B, and G `is the body of the chair formed "of two verticalside stripsfa) The`-base andkbodyof the chair may be formed of either wood or metal, and the center part or block B by a pivot or joint .""arrangedin any way so that thebody C may be turned around upon the base A. A spring catch D, seeFigs. 1 and 2, may be attached to the under side of the bowed or "curved strip (b)A 'for thepurpose of preventing the body from turning casually. j
" E represents a frame formed of metal Q rods or` bars (c) (\Z),fwhioh are attached or suspended to the tops of the vertical strips i (a) (a) vof the bodyC, by pivots orjournals` i l "(6) (e) as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
`F""representse`the` seat ofthe `usual forni andthe seat hasrollers or wheels (f) :(f)`
attached tofitsunderside, and which rollers TnoMAs, of
or wheels rest or work on the bar (d) of the frame E. Thisbar (el) underneath the seat iis curvedor of semi-circular form as shown clearly `in Fig. l. The bar (o) extends around the upper and back part of the back of the seat and the pivots or journals (6) (e) areattached tothe frarnel E, at the points -of juncture ofthe two bars.
Theupper part of the back of the seat is bar` (c) `as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
` 4The seat `F itwill-be seen is secured withinthe framev Efby the pivot (g) and the rollers or wheels` (f) (f) which work on the bar (d)l And it will also be seen ,that the attached by a pivot "(g') to the center of the seat will remain in. a horizontal position `whenthevessel isrolling or turning because the seat `of thechair is in fact connected to the body bywa universal joint, the body being `allowed l to turn or be inclined at either side in consequence of the rollers or wheels (f), and thepivot are turned orl in-I cline forwardfor backward in consequence of `the pivots or journals (e) `(e), the seat F remaining stationary.
The `above chair is designed for vessels,
`and will be a valuable acquisition forpersons liable to'sea sickness, as they entirely prevent that disorder and irrespective of nthis they will be far preferableto the chairs in use as the motions of a vessel are disagreeable and annoying under any circum- V stances. connected to a-horizontal bowed strip b.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lety j e j y 'ters Patent, isj bowed or curvedstrip (b) isattached to the i Placing the seat F within a frame E which is attached by pivots (e) (e) to-the body of the chair. The seat having friction rollers or wheels attached to its under side which work upon the lower curved portion` of the frame E as herein shown, whereby the frame and body of the chair are allowed to turn or be inclined in accordance with the motions of the vessel and the seat at the same time always remaining in a horizontal position as herein described.
