IBPROVEMENT IN RAZOR-STROPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,870, dated May 21,1872.
SPECIFICATION. I, SAMUEL M. BRIees, of Woonsocket, Providence county, Rhode Island, have invented certain Improvements in Razor-Strops,
. of which the following is a speciiicaton:
My invention consists of the combination of leather and cloth cemented or otherwise joined together.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure lis a representation of my razor-strop, the lower end being twisted in Order to show both sides. Fig. 2 is a view of the strop coiled up and put in a box with a ball of paste.
A strip of leather,A, of suitable len gth-say two feet, and width, say two inches-is lined with a piece of muslin or cloth D by cementing, gluing, or otherwise attaching the leather and textile fabric together. At one end of this strip OI" leather and cloth is inserted a stretcher or piece of wire, B,to hold the strap dat. Both the leather and the cloth may be coated in the usual way with paste. A hole is made to attach the strop tO a hook, C, which is provided with a screw, so as to be readily inserted into the door-casing or other wood-work of the room, or any suitable place. Instead of the hook C, a swivel maybe used to allow the strop to be turned, so as to use the leather side Or the cloth side at pleasure. I prefer to use brown canvas cloth 5 but any suitable cloth of cotton, linen, wool, or other lmaterial may be used. A- second stretcher may be inserted in the other end of the strop it' desired, but the hand may readily control this end without a stretcher. Ichis strop may be rolled up and put in a box, as seen in Fig. 2, thus occupying very little room, as seen in Fig. 2, where F is the box; G,the hook; E, the roll of paste 5 and A, the strop inwsection.
Having described my invention, I claim- The combination of leather and cloth, united by cement, or otherwise, and thus forming a razor-strop, substantially as set forth.
. SAMUEL M. BRIGGS.
