READY-REFERENCE CALENDAR.
Application filed May 25, 1914.. Serial No. 8 10.738.
county of Dakota, State'of Minnesota, :have
invented. certain new and useful-Improve: ments in Ready-Reference Calendars, of which the followmg is a specificatlon. 1
My invention relates broadly to calendars and more particularly to a combined wall calendar and reference calendar.
The principal object of this invention ls to provide a reference calendar wherein the cover thereof comprises a backing for a wall calendar of the usual type.
A further object of my invention is to provide a wall calendarwhereon definite dates may be indicated and thereby refer to memoranda concealed within the reference calendar constituting the back for the wall calendar.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a wall calendar upon the cover for a memorandum calendar and fasten the leaves of the memorandum calendar together by means of the cord for suspending the Wall calendar.
Other and further objects of my invention will in part be obvious and will in part be pointed out in the specification hereinafter following by reference to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters are used to represent like parts throughout the several views thereof.
Referring specifically to the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device hanging on a wall as an ordinary calendar, thereby concealing the memorandum calendar. Fig. 2 is a view showing the calendar open in such manner as to expose both the calendar pad and the memorandum calendar. Fig. 3 is a modified form wherein one back of the memorandum calendar is extended longer than the other and the wall calendar pad is mounted upon the face of the longer back.
Heretofore memorandum calendars were usually formed with open leaves whereon the inemorandums might be arrangedand were thereby open so that anyone noticing the date might also read the memorandum. Such calendars did not facilitate the making of private memoranda which it was desired the general public might not see.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patent d June 4, 1918.
' My inventionprovides an ordinary calendar on which definite dates may be specfically de'signated'and the particular event to occur on that date may be indicated on the memorandum calendar within the'backing forthe wall calendar pad andthereby effectively concealing the memoranda and at the same time calling the attention of the'user of the calendar to the definite date.
Referring particularly to the drawings, the mount for the wall calendar pad 1, which may be of'the usualform having one leaf for'each month, comprises a memorandum calendar back or book. The calendar pad 1 may be mounted on the outer cover 2 of the book, and preferably the calendar pad, is mounted in such manner that the length of the pad corresponds with the length of the back, as is shown in Fig. 1. The back of the memorandum calendar book may be perforated as at 4 and a securing and supporting cord 5 may be passed through said perforations. This cord may be used to perform the double function of securingitogether the leaves 6 of the memorandum calendar book and for supporting the device for use as an ordinary wall calendar, by looping the cord 5 over a support such as the nail 7, as shown in Fig. 1.
The memorandum calendar 8 is provided upon the leaves 6, and preferably is arranged as shown in Fig. 2, wherein a portion of the leaf comprises a memorandum calendar having a line 9 for each day of the month arranged to cover a portion of a page, and the remaining portion of the page, such as 10, may be utilized for printing or writing thereon, information, advertising, etc.
The device disclosed in Fig. 3 is similar in character to the device disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2 with the exception that the back cover page 11 is arranged larger than the front cover page 12 and the calendar pad 1 is mounted upon the inner face of the back cover page in such manner that when the back cover is folded as shown in Fig. 3, the calendar pad is concealed. The memorandum calendar and other portions of the device are identical with that disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2.
The use of the memorandum calendar may be illustrated by designating the date June 30th by means of an X as shown in Fig. 1. This designation indicates to the to What the'notatiOmrQfersuser of the calendar that his attention is called to the true memorandum calendar.
