WRAPPER-PASTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. SLEEPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moores, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrapper-Pasting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in wrapper pasting devices, the object of the invention being to provide improved means for controlling the outlet of paste so asto deposit the desired amount of pasteon the wrappers.
A further object is to provide an improved construction of paste holder which can be readily dismantled, and taken apart, andeffectually cleaned from time to time, as may be desired.
A. further object is to provide an improved mounting for the paste holder which permits the latter to be tilted to any angle, and which insures a free vertical movement of the paste holder so that the latter feeds downwardly as the wrappers are drawn out from under the same.
A further object is to provide a device of the character stated which is an improvement upon the structure disclosed in Patent #1,033,282 granted to me July 23,1912, and upon the structure disclosed ,in Patent #1,084:,825 granted to me January 20, 1914.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a top plan view, illustrating my improvements.

secured by bolts 7. The bolts 7 are projected through slots 8 in the brackets 6 and are secured by nuts 29 on the insideof the paste holder.
Each bracket 6 isprovided with two slots 8 and two securing bolts 7, the latter of sufficiently less diameter than the width of the slots so that the paste holder can be ad,-
justed at varying angles in either direction as indicated clearly in dotted lines in Fig. 3, and this angular position of the paste holder affects a greater or less feed of paste as will be readily understood.
The'brackets Gare each provided with two rollers 4 which are disposed in vertical alinement and move freelyin the grooves 3. The rollers prevent any possibility of a binding action in the grooves, but insure a free vertical feed regardless of the angular disposition of the paste holder.
Thepaste holder 5 is provided with a bottom 9 having a series of perforations 10 therein, in line with perforations 12 in a removable false bottom 11. A sliding out off plate 13' is located between bottom 9. and
false bottom 11 and is movable through a slot 14, in the wall of paste holder 5. This sliding plate 13 has an upturned flange 15 at its outer edge to facilitate its manipulation, and it will be readily understood bymoving the plate 13 laterally relative to the paste holder, the outlet of paste can be controlled or entirely out off at the will of the The false bottom 11 fits snugly in the paste holder andis provided with upwardly projecting tongues 16, slightly bent over at their upper edges as shown at 17 to facilitate the removal of the false bottom. The false bottom 11 and sliding plate 13'can both be readily removed to allow a thorough cleaning of the device whenever occasion may require.
While I have illustrated in the'drawing, the plate 13 consisting of two sections, 13
' and 13 of differentlengths, I would have it understood that I do not limit myself to any number or length of plate sections, as I may vary the length of sections in order to acthe paste holder so as to puncture the upper wrappers 20 and prevent accidental. movement. 1
- 18 when the latter move through the pile of wrappers, the block 21 is provided with re cesses 22 to accommodate said pins.
In Fig. 5, I illustrate a modified shape of paste holder 23. In this form of my invention the paste holder is angular and I would have it understood that I may make the paste holder of various shapes in accordance with the work to be done, but would embody in the paste holder of any shape, the features of construction above described.
While I have illustrated the sliding plate 13 as of flat metal rubbing against flat metal surfaces, it may be found desirable in some instances to utilize some sort of packing to prevent leakage.
In operation the wrappers are drawn from under the paste holder and receive the desired amount of paste in accordance with the position of the plate 13 and the angular disposition of the paste holder. The paste holder feeds downwardly by gravity, the rollers 4: facilitating such movement and in suring a properfeed at all times.
When it is desired to elevatethe paste holder to insert a new pile .of wrappers under the same, it .is advisable to have some supporting means for the paste holder. With this in view, I provide arms 24: which arepivotally secured to the standards? .as shown at 25, and are adapted to swing to a horizontal position under the paste holder and rest upon lugs 26 on the standards. These l-ugs:26 limit the pivotal movement of the arms in one direction and permit the latter to support the paste holder while a new pile of wrappers are located in position.
When the wrappers are in position the paste holder is elevated slightly and the arms swung to the position shown in full line of Fig. 2 so that the paste holder is .free to move downwardly on to the wrappers. Various slight changes may be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at libertyto make such changes and alterations asfairlyfall within the spirit and scope .of the appended claims.
Having fully described 'my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A paste holder, comprising a receptacle having a pair of perforated bottoms spaced apart, and a sliding plate between said bottoms adapted to cut 0d the perforations in both bottoms.
2. A paste holder, comprising a receptaole having a perforated bottom, a sliding plate supported on the perforated bottom, and a removable perforated false bottom lo cated inside the receptacle on top of the sliding plate.
8. A paste holder, comprising .a receptacle having .a perforated bottom, a sliding plate supported on the perforated bottom, and a removable perforated false bottom located inside the receptacle and on top of the sliding plate, and upwardly projecting tongues on the false bottom having bent upper ends.
4c. A device of the character described comprising a base plate, a pair of standards on the base plate, a paste holder, brackets on the ends of the paste holder, means permitting said paste holder a movement angularly relative to the brackets, and means on the brackets having vertical movement on the standards.
5. A. device of the character described, comprising a pair of standards, brackets movable vertically on the standards, a paste holder supported by the brackets, and means permitting said paste holder an angular adjustment relative to the brackets.
6. A device of the character described, comprising a base plate, a pair of grooved standards on the base plate, a paste holder,
brackets on the ends of the paste holder,
each bracket having a pair of vertically alined rollers thereon, movable in the grooves of the standards,said brackets having slots therein, and securing devices projectedthrough the slots and into the paste holder, whereby the paste holder may "be tilted relative to the brackets.
7. A device of the character described, comprising a base plate, standards on the base plate, a paste holder, devices on the ends of the paste holder sliding in the standards and devices on the standards adapted to support the paste holder in an elevated position.
'8. A device of the character described, comprising a base plate, standards on the base plate, a paste holder, devices on the ends of the paste holder sliding in the standards, pivoted arms on the standards adapted to be projected under the paste holder and support the latter in an elevated position, and lugs on the standards limiting the pivotal movement of the arms.
'9. .A device of the character described, comprising a base plate, apair, of-standards on the base plate, a paste holder guided in its vertical movement between the standname to this specification in the presence of ards, a block supported on the base plate two subscribing witnesses.
