TAILOR'S MEASURE.

INVENTOR ATTORNEY THOMAS E. SCOTT, OF PATTERSON, LOUISIANA.
TAILORS MEASURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May '7, 1918.
Application filed April 4, 1916. Serial No. 88,892. e
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS F. Soon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Patterson, in the county of St. Mary and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tailors Measures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to a tailors measure, and the nature and objects thereof will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which it appertains, in the light of the following explanation of the accompanying drawings, illustrating what I now believe to be the preferred embodiment, or mechanical expression, of my invention from among other forms and arrangements within the spirit thereof, and the scope of the appended claims.
However, an object of the invention is to provide a device for tailors and merchants whereby the inner seam of a pair of trousers may be conveniently and accurately measured.
In addition to the foregoing my invention comprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar and corresponding parts are designated by the same reference characters, I have illustrated a'dcvice constructed in accordance with my invention in operative position relative to a pair of trousers shown in dotted lines.
With reference to the drawings 1 indicates the body portion of my device which is in the form of an arcuate member, preferably constructed of wood and rounded at its ends and polished so as to present an ornamental appearance. The curvature of the body portion is such as to conform to the crotch of the trousers without causing wrinkling of the trousers or distortion of the inner seam while the trousers are on the wearer.
A staple 2 is driven into the body member at an intermediate portion thereof, and on the outer side of the curve to support a clip engage the staple. cured to the clip A in any A tape-measure 5 is sesuitable manner copies 0! this patent may be obtained for to the rod at a point 3 having a hook portion i adapted to five cents each, by addressing the and is illustrated in the drawing with its upper edge 6 slightly projecting beyond the clip. This portion 6 of the tape is extended beyond the clip so that the measurement of the inner seam may be taken from the innor surface of the body portion of the de vice, or in other words to allow for the width of the body portion. When the device is in use the tape 5 is stretched downward and the dimension thereon noted which is adjacent the lower edge of the trouser leg, the body portion of the device being meanwhile pressed upward by means of a handle 7 provided at the forward end of the body portion and preferably integral therewith. The measurements may thus be read direct because, as stated before the upper end of the tape is so adjusted in the clip 3 so as to allow for the width of the body portion of the device.
While I have illustrated my invention with some degree of particularity it is evident that minor changes may be made therein, and I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details, or otherwise altering the arrangement of parts. without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A tailors measure comprising a rod permanently bent to conform substantially to the crotch of a pair of trousers, a handle formed integrally with the rod adjacent one end thereof and at an angle thereto, and a tape measure secured at one end thereof handle.
2. A-tailors measure comprising a rod, circular in cross section and bent to the arc of a circle, a handle integrally formed on one end of the rod, and at an angle thereto, a U-shaped member secured to the rod on the outer surface thereof, a clip hingedly connected to the member, and a tape measure secured at one end to the clip.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS F. SCOTT.
