FLESH-REDUCING GARMENT.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May '7, llml.
Application filed May 25, 1914. Serial No. 840,885. 4
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ti-rnon'onA WoRMnEY' Roenns, a citizen of the United States, res1d-' ing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flesh-Reducing Garments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to flesh reducing garments of that class which are adapted for the reduction of the hips or thighs of the wearer and has particular relation to the improvement of the construction shown in my former application for patent, Serial Number 829,565, filed April 4, 1914.
The objects of my present invention are to provide a combined corset and hip and thigh reducing garment of improved construction and arrangement of parts; to provide a substantially integral garment which will embod a corset or a desirable portion thereof and a bifurcated garment so constructed as to insure pressure on those parts of the body which it is desired'to reduce, thereby causing a gradual circulatory absorption of the adipose tissues and a consequent reduction in the size of the parts to which the pressure is subjected; to so construct my improved garment as to admit of desirable adjustment and to produce other improvements, the details of which will be -more fully pointed out hereinafter.
' The preferred embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts, and in which:
- Figure 1 represents the figure of a woman wearing one of my improved igarments and showing the front view thereo Fig. 2 is a similar view showing portions of the side and back of the garment as it appears when worn.
As indicated I the drawing, my improved garment combines a suitable corset or portion of a corset 1, which forms the greater part of the upper portion of the arment, with-a downwardly extending fies ing garmentmemberor portion 2, the latter being formed of yielding material, preferably of knit elastic and comprising hi and thigh embracing portions 3 and o wardly extending leg portions 4:. At the rear of the rment, the corset member 1 is open throng out its length, this opening being continued'into the reducing member 2 to to be adjustably drawn toget reduc a point in the crotch of said reducing member. The sides of this openin are adapted er by lacing tapes, such as are indicated at b or the edges may be otherwise suitably connected or united by adjustable means. A similar opening is formed at the front of the garment, as indicated at 6, and the edges \of this opening are likewise adapted to be ad 'pustably connected by suitable lacing strings or other known means. This front opening 6 is likewise carried downward through the upper portion of the front of the garment member *2 to the point of bifurcation. In combining the members 1 and 2 of my improved garment, preferably provide the opposite sides of the flesh reducing member 2 with upwardly extending portions 8 which, as shown, are fitted in correspond-- ingly shaped recesses of the corset body 1. These side extensions 8, together with the body of the member 2, insure a desirable covering of the hips of the wearer with the yielding material of which the reducing member 2-is formed. a 1
In the construction of the elastic reducing member 2, ll insert in the front and rear of said garment member, on opposite sides of each of the vertical openings thereof, separately formed pieces of yielding material 9,
this construction being similar to that set forth in my said former application.
It will be understood that the garment herein described may by a proper manipulation of the lacing tapes or other adjustable connections, be made to fit the body with the desired degree of closeness and that by this means a prbper degree of pressure on the hips or thighs or both may be exert ed by the material forming the reducing member to create a desirable absorption of the adipose tissues and a resultant decrease in the size of the portion of the vbody embraced. Tt will be observed that by the em-' ployment of the inserted members 9, those portions or sections of the reducing member which actually bear upon the hips andthighs are thus narrowed, thereby permitting the hip portions of the garment to be drawn tightly at the w points through a more. perfect control of the elastic movement of the material. Furthermore, the
employment of the sections 9' permits the insertion of sections of such sizes and forms body of the person for whomit is intended.
' benefit which is ordinarily imparted to the corset.
As will be observed the wearer of my improved garment will not only receive the benefit to be derived through the pressure of the reducing member, but will have .com-
- bined with said reducing member the e'fiective portion of a desirable form of corset, which combination will add to both the convenience and comfort of the wearer. It will also be understood that my improved garment is simple of construction and that owing to the provision of legs, it may be worn with comfort and without retarding the movements of the wearer.
What I claim is:
1. A garment comprising a combined corset andcompressor, the corset being of nonelastic material, the compressor being attached to the lower edge of the corset and including an elastic portion which encircles the body at the hips to cause hip pressure, a pair of elastic thigh embracing portions attached to the hip embracing portion whereby the latter is held in position, and means common to both the corset and com- "the body at the hips to cause hip pressure,
a pair of elastic thigh embracing portions attached to the 'hip embracing portion whereby the latter is held in position, and
means at the front and rear of the garment and common to both the corset and compressor for regulating the closeness of fit of the garment.
3. A garment comprising a combined corset and compressor, said corset being of non-elastic material and being cut out at oppositely located points and at the sides of the same from 1ts lower portion toward the waist line, said compressor being attached to the lower edge of the corset and being of elastic material and comprising a portion which completely encircles the body and extends up into said cut-out portions, and a pair of tubular leg pieces at the bottom of said encircling portion.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
