- The present invention provides improvements to undergarments of the girdle type including corsets and pantie girdles.

Current styles call for a girdle having elastic qualities capable of compressing the body to produce a smooth contour upon which outer garments can be satisfactorily draped. To this end these girdle are commonly constructed of elastic material such as rubber, or Woven or knitted with elastic threads so that when applied the girdle will substantially compress the abdomen and hips, which are desirable features to have compressed, also compress the buttocks, which according to current styles should not be unduly flattened.

The invention has for one of its objects the provision of an improved elastic girdle adapted for use as a foundation garment having means for molding the buttocks into natural contours by eliminating the unnatural and flattened appearance imparted to the buttocks by the usual types of girdles. V

A further object of the invention is to produce an improved elastic girdle for use as a foundation garment provided with means to effect the compression of the hips without distorting the natural contour of the buttocks and secure a smooth exteriorcontour of the figure meeting the demands for current styles.

A further object of the invention is to provide a girdle of the type indicated with improved structural features adapted to enhance the effect of the garment.

Further objects of the invention will bcome apparent as the description proceeds, and the features of novelty will be pointed out in particularity in the appended claims.

Generally speaking, the objects of the invention are attained by providing a break in the back of the garment with inserts or cups to mold the figure into. a natural contour by holding the cheeks of the buttocks firm by pushing the sur- 2 Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 33 looking in the direction of the arrows. Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character I represents an improved garment of the pantie-girdle type having a crotch portion 2 and an insert cup portion 3 on each side of the crotch portion 2, this crotch portion being a V-shaped piece, joined to the insert portion 3 and to the girdle proper by seams 4 (Fig. 1) A central seam 5 bisects the V-shaped crotch portion or piece 2. Said insert cup portions 3 are composed respectively, of an upper portion 3a and a lower portion 3b. The upper portion 3a, is a large shallow insert, adapted to stretch, as shown by the arrows when the wearer sits, whereas the lower portion 3b is a small or more deeply cupped member that fits over the lower portion of the buttocks and is set on a bias relative-to the upper member 3a, and to which it is joined by a slightly curved median seam 6. The bottom member 31) is roughly triangular but taken with upper portion 3a each insert 3 is of a circular configuration except for the segment out 01f by each seam 4. The upper member 3a is substantially larger and shallower than the lower member 3b, the two members are predeterminedly arranged with respect to each other and united by a lineof stitching 6 extending in a predetermined curve, so that the portions will not only present and maintain a cup-like formation (Fig. 2), but the relative direction of stretch of said portions with respect to each other are such as tocOmpensate for the natural body movements of the respective underlying buttock portions. Also, in conjunction with the connecting flexible crotch portion 2, notwithstanding that the stretching of the bottom portion 322 is more pronounced and sharper than that of the top portion 3a, the connected portions 3 are held in position and maintained in conformity with the shape of the cheeks of the buttocks to mold the wearer figureinto a natural configuration and maintain a continuous smooth contour upon which outer garments can be draped satisfactorily. The variable movements of the buttocks during walking and sitting are accurately followed by the relative stretching and contracting of the upper and lower parts 3a and 3b.

From the above it will be apparent that I have provided a foundation garment, designated herein as of the pantie-girdle type, adapted to compressingly mold the wearer's figure, without distorting or flattening of the buttocks, and wherein the overlying garment portion are so constructed as to conform to the underlying variable body movements, during the wearing of the garment, not only to preserve the natural contours of the buttocks, but at the same time enhance the wearing comfort of the garment. In this connection it may be noted that the compressional but yieldable stretching of the insert sections against the wearer prevents the girdle from creeping up on the wearer during wearing of the garment and continuously secures the garment comfortably in its intended position during wearing.

The crotch piece 2 can be made detachable, or in the case of a corset type of girdle it could be omitted, in which event the inserts 3 are continued to the central seam 5.

Although in practice it has been found that' the form of the invention illustratedin. the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above description as the preferred embodiment is the most eflicient and practical, yet realizingthat conditions concurrent with the adoption of the invention will necessarily vary, it is desired to emphasize that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts, may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from or sacrificing any of the principles of this invention.

Having thus described the invention, what I desire protected by Letters Patent is as set forth in the following claims.

I claim:

1. In a figure-controlling girdle-type garment, in which at least the rear portion is elastic, a V-shaped crotch member, pocket inserts of elastic material secured to the elastic rear portion to stretch therewith and positioned on opposite sides ofv the crotch member to register with the buttocks of the wearer, thesaid inserts being approximately hemi-spherical in contour and having an'upper portion and a-complemental lower portion, the said portions having radii and ourvatures corresponding to the curvatures of the corresponding upper and lower portions of the checks of the buttocks, the upper portion of the inserts being a shallow pocket and the lower portion being a deep pocket, seam'means interconnecting each of the insert pockets with the crotch member, the lower portion being approximately triangular in shape, while the upper and lower portions together are-substantially circular except for segments at the crotch member cut off from the insert pockets by the seam means, the lower portion being on a bias' relative to the upper portion, and an upwardly curved median seam defining the juncture between the upper and lower portions of the inserts, the said portions being independently stretchable in different directions with respect to each other corresponding to different muscular movements of the corresponding portions of the buttocks during sitting and standing positions of the wearer, the said portions being connected on a biasby a flexible crotch portion for continuously accommodating the elastic inserts to the contours and movements of the upper and lower portions of the buttocks of the wearer.

A figure-controlling garment comprising a girdle-type of body adapted to encircle the waist portion of a wearer, a pair of elastic pocket-like compound inserts in the rear of the body, a crotch portion, said crotch portion extending vertically upwardly intermediate the inserts, the said inserts being secured to the crotch portion on each side thereof andcooperating therewith to maintain the inserts positioned over the cheek portions of a wearers buttocks, each of the inserts including a pair of complementary sections disposed on a bias relative to each other, seam meansinterconnecting the inserts with the sides of the crotch portion, and a median seam interconnecting the complementary sections of the inserts, each of the said complementary sections being independently stretchable in different directions relative to each other corresponding to different bodily movements of the buttocks, the said inserts preserving the natural contour of the buttocks beneath the inserts and continuously restraining the garment against upward movement relative to the wearer during wearing of the garment.

A figure-controlling garment comprising *a girdle-type of body adapted to encircle the waist portion of a wearer, thesaid body'including a crotch portion, a pair of elastic pocket-like compound inserts in the rear of the garment-on either side of the crotch portion, the crotch portion extending vertically upwardly intermediate the inserts, the inserts being secured to the crotch portion on opposite sides thereof and cooperating therewith to maintain the inserts positioned over the cheek portions of a wearers buttocks, each of the inserts including a pair of sections disposed on a bias relative to each other, each of which is stretchable in different independent directions relative to each other corresponding to different bodilymovements of the buttocks, the said'inserts preserving the'natural contour of the buttocks beneath the inserts and continuously restraining the garment againstupward movement relative to the wearer during the wearing of the garment.
