A41c 1 00 U.S. Cl. 12S-528 8 Claims ABSTRACT F THE DISCLOSURE A panty girdle having an outer garment and front inner panels forming a sling and supporting sagging abdominal muscles of the wearer and exerting an inwardly directed abdominal supporting pressure upon spreading of the garment. Elongated strips of elastic material may be included on each side of the garment to hinder spreading of hips and thighs and a strip of material may ybe included across the rear of the garment to form a sling for supporting sagging derriere muscles.

The present invention relates in general to undergarments, and more particularly to a girdle.

An object of the present invention is to provide a girdle which provides support and figure control while permitting sufficient freedom of movement that the girdle is remarkably comfortable to wear.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a girdle of comparatively simple, yet effective, design.

One feature of the present invention is the provision of a girdle with an inside front panel which exerts inwardly directed supporting pressure upon lateral spreading of the girdle.

Another feature of the present invention is the provision of a girdle with a front panel extending symmetrically upward from the center of the girdle to form a sling which supports sagging abdominal muscles.

Another feature of the present invention is the provision of a girdle with elongated strip panels extending along each side for preventing spreading of the hips and thighs.

Another feature of the present invention is the provision of a strip panel extending across the lower rear to form a sling which supports sagging derriere muscles.

Still another feature of the present invention is the provision of a panty girdle containing a smooth crotch panel having a flap opening therein to facilitate comfortable leg movement.

These and other features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent upon a consideration of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

FIGURE 1 is a front perspective view, partially broken away, of a panty girdle in accordance with the present invention, shown as shaped in the position of use on a wearer;

FIGURE 2 is a crosssecti0nal view taken along line 2 2 in FIGURE 1;

FIGURE 3 is a cross-section view taken along line 3 3 in FIGURE 2; and

FIGURE 4 is a bottom view of the inside pocket formed by two panels in the panty girdle of FIGURE 1 and illustrates the abdominal supporting action of the present invention.

The panty girdle 10, shown in the drawing, comprises an elastic outer garment 11 which conforms to the middle of the body and the upper part of the legs of the wearer. This outer garment 11 is joined by stitching with an elastic waist band 12 and with a smooth crotch panel 13 having an open flap or ily 14 to facilitate comfortable movement of the wearers legs. A pair of decorative leg bands 11a and 11b are stitched to the bottom of the leg portions of the outer garment 11.

15 and 16 are stitched inside of the outer garment 11. Panel 15 is generally V-shaped and is stitched to, and conforms in surface with, the outer garment 11. The bottom of the V-shaped panel 15 is tangential at its bottom to the front of the crotch panel 13, and then extends symmetrically upward to form a sling which pulls upward for supporting the sagging abdominal muscles. The panel 16 is generally rectangular in shape and is stitched at its top edge 16a to the waist band 12 and at its two side edges 16b and 16C to the panel 15 and the outer garment 11. Thus, the panel 16 has a free bottom edge 16d which forms the opening for an upside-down inside pocket construction.

The rectangular panel 16 is cut and sewn so that the transverse dimension along the -bottom edge 16d forming the pocket opening, between the two stitched side edges 16b and 16e, is shorter than the transverse dimension of the pocket backing portion of the panel 15 and outer garment 11 -between said side edges 16b and 16C. Thus, the garment is remarkably flexible and comfortable for permitting body movement, and yet a iirm supporting pressure is applied to the stomach muscles. This can be seen in FIGURE 4 which is a bottom view of the pocket formed between

15 and 16. The girdle in relaxed position is shown in solid lines. Upon the application of a muscle spreading pressure indicated by the arrows X and Y, the panel 16 along the bottom edge 16b between side edges 16b and 16C, -being shorter than the backing panel 15 between said edges 16b and 16e, will llex to a greater extent than the panel 15, as shown by the dotted lines, and thereby impart an inwardly directed supporting pressure Z to the wearers abdomen.

A pair of elastic strip panels 20 and '21 are stitched inside of the outer garment 11 so as to extend longitudinally along each side of the wearer throughout the entire length of the garment 11. The panel 20 extends transversely from the side edge 16b of the panel 16 to a rear seam 20a, and the panel 21 extends transversely from the side edge 16C of the panel 16 to a rear seam 21a. These panels 21 and 22 thereby prevent spreading of the hips and thighs.

Finally an elastic strip panel 30, stitched inside the outer garment 11, extends longitudinally from the rearside seam 20a, tangential to the rear crotch panel 14, and then to the opposite rear-side seam 21a. yThe panel 30 thereby forms a sling for uplifting the sagging muscles of the derriere.

As will be readily understood by those skilled in the art, the outer garment 11 may be formed in two parts with a front and rear seam. In this case it is desirable also to form the

inner panels

15 and 30 in two parts, with the two parts of the panel 15 being joined on the front seam and the two parts of panel 30 being formed on the rear seam.

It is to be understood that modifications and variations of the embodiments of the invention disclosed herein may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. A girdle comprising an elastic garment conforming to the middle part of the body of a wearer, said garment being formed with a crotch panel and a waist portion, an elastic first panel inside of and secured to said garment, said first panel being formed at the lower portion with a configuration reducing symmetrically in side-to-side dimension as said lirst panel progresses toward said crotch panel, said first panel having an upper portion which extends across the front of said garment between seams disposed on opposite sides of said garment, said lower portion of said iirst panel being shorter than the upper portion of said garment extending between said seams for exerting an inwardly directed supporting pressure on the abdomen of the wearer upon lateral spreading of said garment, and an elastic second panel which extends across the front of said garment symmetrically downwardly in the direction away from said waist portion of said garment for forming a sling which supports sagging abdominal muscles of the wearer, said second panel being secured to said garment along an upper edge thereof and along side edges thereof.

2. A girdle according to claim 1 further comprising elongated strip panels extending along eachside of said garment throughout the length of said garment for preventing spreading of the hips and thighs of the wearer.

3. A girdle according to claim 1 further comprising an elongated strip panel extending across the lower rear of said garment for forming a sling which supports sagging derriere muscles of the wearer.

4. A girdle according to claim 2 wherein said garment is in the form of a panty girdle with said crotch panel being smooth, said crotch panel extending between the lower edge of said first panel for supporting sagging abdominal muscles and the lower edge of said strip panel extending across the lower rear of said garment for supporting sagging derriere muscles.

5. A girdle according to claim 4 wherein said crotch panel has a flap opening thereof extending along the length of said strip panel extending across the lower rear of said garment.
