Be it known that 1, JOHN A. SODERSTROM,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Sink lfiBoards, of which the following is a specication.

This invention relates to a guard for sink boards and the like which prevents dishes from sliding therefrom.

One of its objects is to provide an attachment of this character which is simple in construction and producible at low cost.

A further object is the production of a guard which can be readily applied to sinks now in general use and which can be easily removed therefrom for the purpose of cleaning the sink board.

Another object is to provide the guard with means for dividing the sink board into a plurality of compartments in which to arrange dishes, silverware, glasses, vetc., after being washed. 7

Referring to Figs. l-3, 1 indicates the sink and 2 the sinkboard to which my improved I having a transverse portion 45 and longitudinal side arms 5, 5, which are adapted to extend around the inner transverse edge and the outer and inner longitudinal edges of the sink board 2 and above the surface thereof a suitable distance to prevent any articles resting thereon from sliding off onto the floor. ' are constructed of a flexible material so that the same can be sprung onto and 0d from the board. To the upper portion of each lug 6 is fastened one leaf of a suitable hinge 8, while the other leaf is fastened to the inner face of the transverse portion 4 of the guard. The outer longitudinal arm 5 of the latter is provided, preferably on its extreme end, with a looking or retaining clip 9 which may be fastened to the same by a rivet 10 or other suitable means and which serves to reliably hold the guard in place when in use. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, this retaining clip is adapted to embrace the adjacent edge of the sink board and its inwardly-extending lower end 11 is arranged to snap into a notch or recess 12 in the flange 7 of the sink board. This clip and guard possess the necessary resilience to permit the same to be moved into and out of engagement with the outer longitudinal edge of the sink board. By hinging the guard at its inner transverse edge and providing a locking device of the character described, the same may be easily and readily swung upwardly, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 8, to a position which ,will permit of thoroughly cleaning the sink board.

For the purpose of dividing the sink board into a series of compartments in which to conveniently arrange dishes, glasses, silverware, etc., after being washed, a plurality of partitions 13 are provided which are arranged transversely of the guard and sink. These partitions are provided at their ends with projections 14: which are adapted to engage notches 15 arranged at suitable inter vals in the top edges of the longitudinal side arms 5, 5, of the guard. The top edges of the partitions are preferably flush with the top edges of the guard, while their bottom edges terminate short of the upper surface of the sink to permit water to drain therefrom.

' In the modification shown in Figsl and 5, the sink guard is constructed of an L- shaped bar 16 which extends around the lower or inner transverse edge and the outer longitudinal edge of the sink board 2 and above the surface thereof. The transverse portion of the guard is hinged at 17 to the adjacent edge of this board, which in this instance, is constructed of wood. The side member of the guard is provided with a retaining clip 18 adapted to snap over the ad- 7 jaeent edge of the board for holding it in place.- As in the previous construction, the

' guard is resilient enough to permit this clip general use, and can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.

As an article of manufacture, a guardattaohment for sink-boards comprising a transverse bar adapted to extend along the inner edge of the sink-board and a resilient longitudinal bar adapted to extend along a lateral edge of the board, and means for pivotally mounting said transverse bar on the sink-board to swing said bars clear thereof, said resilient bar having a retaining clip adapted to engage the side of the board.
