To all 'whom it may concern.'

Be it known that I, LAURA MANGER MYERS, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Chicago, in the coinity of Cook and State of illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in HoldingFins, of which the following is a specification.

rlhis invention relates more particularly to a pin or device which is especially useful for hemming, shirring and plaiting; for holding a pattern for cutting; forholding goods for pressing or ironing, and for various other purposes in connection with sewing and the like. Among the objects of this invention are to provide a sewing pin having a plurality of Vbranches which serve to hold the goods straight and evenly; to provide such a pin which may be easily and cheaply made and which will be durable and efficient in use; and to provide such advantages Aand improvements as will appear from the following description.

As illustrated in these drawings, 5 :repre-` sents the blank from which the combined body portion or handle of the pin is made, this blank comprising a dat plate of metal such as aluminum, having holes 6 for the sharpened wires 7. rlhere may be any number of these wires used, but in my preferred form three are used. lThe lower portion 8 of the plate 5 is bent up and flattened against the back of the plate, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, being pressed down over the inner ends of the wires so as to leave projections 9 at the front only of the handle portion. rlihe upper portion 10 is then bentover to form a tubular hand piece 11, which also extends forwardly from the plate, so as to leave the back of the plate entirely flat. The inner edge of the tubular extension is bent in against the upper edge of the portion 8, so as to lock the same securely against the wires. Corks or plugs 12 are inserted in the ends of the tubular portion 11, so as to make a receptacle `for holding pins or needles, or this receptacle may be filled with some perfunied material, in which case the corks 12 may be omitted or may be made of such material as will allow the escape of the odor.

My improved sewing or holding pin may be made in a variety of sizes, two sizes, as indicated at 13 and 14, being shown in Fig. 1,'the sharpened wires being inserted in a holder 15, which is made of convenient size for Vholding, the two pins. In this figure than in my preferred form of device.

'account of having a plurality of sharpened wires all held in parallel relation, the pin is especially useful for hemining, as it will hold the goods flat and straight instead of permitting them to wrinkle, as is the case when a common single pin is used. ln shirring, the pin is useful not only for holding the goods, but also for distributing the shirring rapidly and evenly. lt is useful for holding the patterns in cutting, as thepattern will not slip or tear, as with a common pin. it is also useful for holding the plaits for basting; for holding trousers or plaited skirts for pressing; for holding laces or ribbons for ironing; for holding goods for hemstitching or fancy stitching; and in fact is useful in a large variety of instances.

Having thus described my invention, which however I do not wish to limit to the exact construction herein shown and de# scribed, except as specified in the following claims, what l claim and desire to secure by `Letters Patent is:

1. A holding pin comprising a plate folded upon itself and having holes through the fold and a plurality of sharpened wires clamped between the folded portions of the position.
