L. c. MATHEWS. FOUNTAIN COMB.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 1 lPatenmd Apr. 23, 1918.
lNVENTOR WITNESSES ATTORNEY racaeaa.
LEWIS U. llMTHEWS, 01E MALAJD CITY, EMU.
To all whom itmafy concern:
4 Combs, of which the following-is a specifica- 4 Be it known that ][,Lnw1s C. Mnrnrnws, a citizen of the United States, residing at Malad City, in the county of Oneida and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountaintion.
' My invention relates to combs and the primary object thereof is'to provide a foun-v tain comb which is particularly adapted to contain hair tonic and is constructed so that the same will convey the tonic to the roots of the hair. r
A second object of the invention is .to provide a fountain comb which is very light and yet durable and which will present a neat and artistic appearance.
It is another ob ect of the invention to provide a comb of this character constructed so as to prevent the liquid from flowing from the comb while the same is being filled.
' Another object resides in a fountain comb which is simple in construction, and which" consists of few parts and which can be easily handled and is inexpensive to manufacture. The above eneral objects together with others will be 4 ully set forth hereinafter and the inventive features explicitly defined in the appended claims. 4 The invention embodies details of construction, formations, and arrangements, which will be specifically set forth hereinafter andillustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a fountain comb constructed in accordance with my invention, parts being broken away.
Fig. 2 1s a fragmentary view showing the manner offilling the comb.
Fig. -3 is a vertical sectional view.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of a modified form of tine.
My improved comb is formed from the usual materials such as celluloid, hard rubupwardly extending extension 7 which is specification of Letters Patent.

which is integral with the extension 7.
- Also formed on the fluid reservoir 5 and at a point directly opposite the rib 10 a comb proper which includes the body 11 and the usual tine 12.
Each of the tines 12 is provided with a longitudinal duct 13' which communicates with the reservoir 5. These openings 6 are relatively small in diameter and extend the entire length of the tines and open upon the small end of the same asclearly illustrated in Fig. 3.
The filling conduit 8 is provided with extensions or lugs 14 and 15 which abut the adjacent end of the rib 6 and comb proper respectively when the parts are in operativev that when it is desired to fill the reservoir it is only necessary to remove the cap 9 and to rotate the filling tube to the position shown in Fig. 2. 4
From the above description it will be seen nipulation of the same and which does notconsist of'awkward and cumbersome parts.
This description is merely illustrative and I wish to here state that the invention is susceptible to various modificationsand alterati'ons that may be embodied in the herewith appended claims.
What is claimed is; 4
1. In a fountain comb, a reservoir, and upwardly extendin ornamental extension formed at one end t ereof, a wall extending across the reservoir adjacent the extension, tube mounted in the opposite end of thereservoir, a filling tube being of the same shape as the extension, and a plurality of tines carried by the reservoir and. each havin a longitudinal opening therein which thereofi a filling tube'mounted in the op osite en of the reservoir, the filling tube eing of the same shape as the extension, and
a comb formed in the tube and extending longitudinally thereof, each of the tines being rovided with a longitudinal openin whio communicates. with-the reservoir an opens upon the outer face of the tines.
3A comb of the character described,
comprising areservoir, an ornamental extension formed at one end thereof, a rib,
formed upon the reservoir and extending longitudinally thereof, a comb body fixed to the tube a. plurality of tines carried thereby and provided with longitudinal openings which communicate with the reservoirfand extend the entire length of the tines, a filling tube detachably engaged with the opposite end of the reservoir, and lugs 1,2es,ees
carried thereb one of which abuts one end of the longitu inal rib while the other abuts one end of the comb, body when the comb is assembled for use. 4. A fountain comb, including a hollow body portion closed at one end, a substantial L-shaped filling tube rotatably mounted in the opposite end thereof, a closure for said tube, and a lurality of hollow teeth carried by-said bo y ortion.
5. A fountain com includin a hollow body portion closed at one en a filling tubehaving ofi'set ends, one of said ends being threadedly engaged with the open end of the body portion, a cap threaded upon the opposite end .of the tube, and a pluralit of teeth carried by said body portion, eac of said teeth having a longitudinally extending bore communicating with the interior of the bodyportion.
In testimony whereof. I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
