Specification of Letters Patent.

. cation.
This invention is an amusement device of simple and cheap construction.
One of the objects of the invention is to produce a unique toy which may be cheaply manufactured and possessing characteristics which readily adapt it for use as an advertising device. A further object is to provide a figure toy capable of wide modification with respect to the character of the figure depicted. a
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, the vfigure illustrates a form of the invention in front elevation.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates, a piece of stiff material, such as pasteboard, and 2 is a piece of similar material, cut to represent the outlines of a figure and slidable over the face of the guide piece. The most suitable subject would represent the head of a man, or of some animal, known by its swallowing capabilities, such as' an ostrich, a crocodile, etc.
Pieces 1 and 2 are respectively fastened and pivoted to the upper ends of levers 8, connected in suitable manner at 8*, said ends being held apart through the pulling action of band 9, engaging the other ends thereof. The piece 2 is pivoted at 8 to the upper end of the right lever 8. Upon pinching the ends of shears 8, piece 2 is caused toslide over piece 1, being guided along slots 3 and 7 in guide piece 1, by buttons 4. and 6. The jaw or movable member 2 of the figure, moves on swivel 5 and in being moved over piece 1, button 4 is caused to follow along Patented Apr. 16, 1918.
slot 3, thereby causing the point of the jaw to drop and rise, imitating the motion ofgulping. A suitable morsel 10, painted on piece 1 disappears behind the forward moving head, creating the impression of having been swallowed. The curve within slot 7 serves to give the figure depicted on piece 2 a lifelike motion when the act of swallowing.
Having thus explained the nature of the invention, and described an operative manner of constructing and using the same, al-
though without attempting to set forth all of the forms in which it may be made, or all of the forms of its use, the following is claimed A toy of the. character described comprising a guide member, a figure member slidable over one face thereof and provided with a movable section, means for imparting relative movement to the movable section while the figure section is sliding over the face of the guide member, levers. con nected to the respective members, and means acting on said levers to normally maintain said members in a predetermined relation.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
