To @ZZ-whom 'it' muy concern:v
Be it known-that I, ANNA E. Movies, a citizen of thef United States,l residing. at Schwenkville, in the .county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in One of the main objects of the .invention is to provide an appliance which may be.
fitted to a person for--whomit isdesiredfto make Ia waist Aor dress so as to iakethe re'- quired measurements, and vis alsogadapted; to have the material secu-red directly tothe.
appliance so as to be marked for cuttingiout. the liningor foundationy of the waist; y A
further object isA topfrovide adevice ofthe character stated-composedof aq'olurality ,of detachably connected inemberswhich may bei quickly and easily -secured labout the person, and as easily removed.l Furthercobjeetswill appear-from vthe detailed description.
In lthe drawings:
Figure -1 is a front view ofthe device as applied forta'ki'ng measurements .for a waist;
Fig. 2 is a side view.;v
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary detailedfview .of one of the tapes 0f whichfthe devi'ceis composed;
Fig. 5 is an underneath view of one of the tapes;
Fig. 6 is a section on line 6-6 of Fig-7;
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary detailed view of the connections between two of the tapes which cross.
In using my device suitable tapes are placed about the neck, waist, and other portions of the body, where it is desired to take measurements, these tapes being indicated by the numerals 1, 2 3, and it. Each of these tapes is provided with a plurality of spaced heads 5 on its outer face and, on its under face, near one end, with a socket 6, the heads and socket being adapted to cooperate to form the well known snap connection. The heads 5 are equally spaced, being placed a suitable distance apart, as one half inch, and the tapes are graduated, the graduation marks being numbered in order, as Fig, 4t of the drawings,

and* shoulder tapes are also graduated in the lsame ma-nner. as. the horizontal tapeswhich arepassed about the body of the person being measured.
With the various tapes secured in position in this manner, the material for the lining may be pinned to the tapes and the lines on which it is desired to cut this material traced thereon in pencil, the tapes being used as guide lines. This material may then be removed and cut in the usual manner to give the various parts of the lining for the waist, allowance being made in cutting for seams, and these parts then being sewed together. By noting the numbers at which the various sockets for securing the ends of the tapes together are positioned, the desired measurements for the waist may be ascertained before removing the appliance. After the lining has been marked and the measurements noted, this appliance may be quickly and easily removed by simply disconnecting the securing sockets from their Cooperating beads. v
When it is desired to take measurements for the skirtV the same system may be used, the horizontal tapes 12 and 13 being placed where it is desired to take measurements, and the vertical tapes 14:, 15, and 16 being secured to these horizontal tapes by means of sockets carried thereby corresponding to the socket 6, andthe suitably spaced heads 17 and 18 carried by the tapes 12 and 13. This same system may also be used in taking measurements for the sleeves of the waist or similar purposes. Y
When not in use, this device may be quickly and easily disassembled and packed in a small container or package for transportation, the tapes being made oit any ,suitable fabric and flexible so as to be easily folded and packed. Y
I am aware that there have been various systems proposed for taking measurements and charting patterns for dressmakiug purposes but7 so far as I know, none of these systems has ever employed a device or appliance similar to mine composed ot' a plurality of detachably connected flexible tapes provided with means for securing the tapes together and for simultaneously 'taking the desired measurements of the subject to which it is desired to fit a garment.
There may be slight changes made in the construction and arrangement oitl the diiiperent parts of my invention without departing from the field and scope of the same, and I intend to include all such variations,`as fall within the scope of the appended claims, in this application in which a preferred form only of my invention is disclosed.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the character described, a plurality of tapes each provided with a longitudinal series of outwardly directed securing heads extending longitudinally the full length thereof and an inwardly directed securing socket at one end coperating with said heads for securing said tape about a persons body, and a plurality or' tapes disposed transverse tothe first said tapes and each provided with a longitudinal series of inwardly directed spaced securing sockets adapted to coperate with the heads of the irst mentioned tapes for detachably securing all of said tapes together.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a plurality of spaced horizontally disposed tapes each provided with a longitudinal series of equally spaced securing heads and a securing socket cooperating with said heads for detachably securing the overlapping ends of the tape together, and a plurality of vertically disposed tapes detachably secured to the said horizontal tapes.
3. In a device or" the character described, the combination of a plurality of horizontally disposed tapes each provided on its outer face with a plurality of equally spaced headsand, on its inner face, with a socket coperating with said heads for detachably securing the overlapping ends of the tape together, a front tape detachably secured to the horizontal tapes, Varm tapes similar to the said horizontal tapes, shoulder tapes detachably secured to the uppermost of the said horizontal tapes and to the arm tapes, and side tapes detachably secured to thearm tapes and the said horizontal tapes.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
