Description

J. R. PALMER.
WATCH EASEL.
APPLICATION man JUNE 21. I911.
Patented Apr. 2,1918.
WITNESS ATTORNEY JOHN R. PALMER, OF REVERE, MASSACHUSETTS.
WATGH-EASEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2, 1918.
Application filed June 27, 1917. Serial No. 177,325.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN R. PALMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Revere, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in l/Vatch-Easels, of Y which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improve ments in the construction of easels for displaying watches or similar articles, and the object of the invention is to produce an easel for this purpose stamped from a single sheet of flat spring metal slitted or cut whereby all of the portions bounded by the said slits and cuts may be bent to provide spring means for effectively engaging with and supporting a watch or similar device upon the easel and also whereby the said members may be readily returned to their initial positions so that a great number of the easels may be arranged one upon the other to provide a small compact bundle for shipment or storage.
With the above and other objects in View the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the improvement supporting a watch,
Fig. 2 i a similar view of the easel, and
Fig. 3 is a plan view'of the easel.
In the manufacture of easels constructed in accordance with the present invention, a great number of the same may be produced by a suitable machine at a single operation thereof.
The easel is constructed from a substantially rectangular thin, preferably resilient plate 1, the same at one of its ends having its corners referably but not necessarily rounded, as lndicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing by the numerals 2, and the end of the plate 1 provided with the said rounded orners i centrally cut inwardly at a curvature as indicated in the said Fig. 4.- by the numeral 3. The plate at a suitable distance from its outer or straight end is slitted longitudinally and angularly as indicated by the characters H in Fig. 4 of the drawings.
The oppositely diverging slits 4: terminate a suitable distance inwardly of the rounded incut portion 3 at one of the ends of the plate 1 and the said plate, from the terminal of the said slits, is further slitted both transversely and longitudinally so as to provide the supporting member 5 at the corners of its free end with extensions 6-6 and these extensions are designed to be bent or rounded upon themselves when the supporting member is arranged angularly with respect to the plate, which in reality forms the base of the easel.
By reference to the drawing it will be noted that the wall between the extensions 6 which provide the downturned fingers for the angular support 5 is rounded, and consequently the lit portion providing the reduced end of the support also provides the base 1 with a tongue 7 that is disposed longitudinally and extended inwardly of the opening provided in the base when the support 5 is raised above the base and this tongue 7 is rounded upwardly, as clearly illustrated in the drawings. The rounded corners of the base are bent upwardly, as at 8, and the lower portion of the watch 9 is designed to be received between the tongue 7 and the said outbent corners 8 of the base 1, while the lingers 6 of the support 5 are designed to engage with the watch at the opposite sides of the stem thereof as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
While I have described the device as constructed from a plate of metal which naturally embodies an inherent resiliency, it is to be understood that the same may be constructed of any other desired material.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A watch easel struck from a flat blank of material having one of its ends at the corners thereof rounded and the central portion of the said end rounded inwardly and the rounded corners upstruck, said plate being slotted longitudinally and angularly from its traight end to its referred to rounded end, the plate from the terminal of the said angular slotted portions being further slotted transversely and inwardly in a rounded line from the said transverse slots, providport said fingers designed to be rounded ing the portion of the plate bounded by the downwardly and the said tongue designed to said slots with a bendable support and with be rounded upwardly, all as and for the fingers at the corner of the said tongue, and purpose set forth. 10 5 the plate proper with a tongue extending In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. lnwardly of the space occupied by the sup- JOHN R. PALMER.
Galilee oi this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Pateute.
