Bunt ng, a tizen 9f th Un ted State residing at DIP quesne, in the countyof Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and .useful Improvements in Folding Swings, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a swing and more particularly to a swing in which the parts are so connected that they may be folded into a minimum space.

A primary object of the invention is to accomplish the foregoing result in the most eflicient manner.

A feature of the invention is the novel manner of pivotally connecting the different parts so that a more rigid cooperation of the parts is accomplished when the parts are in an extended position.

Another feature of the invention is the novel manner of constructing certain parts so that they may be extended for increasing the length of the swing.

Besides the above my invention is distinguished in the novel manner of constructing the end posts of the back so that the same may form a portion of each end memher and allow the end members to fold.

With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from v the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:-

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the swing showing certain parts extended so as to increase the length of the swing,

Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the swing folded.

Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view of the swm Fig. 6 is a detail view of the manner in which the support is connected to the end ers.

Again referring to the drawings the numeral 1 designates the back of the swing, the

end posts

2 and 3 of which are formed in two sections 4 and 5, section 5 seating within a recess 6 formed in the section 4. From this arrangement it will be seen that material is saved and when the sections are associated with one another more substantial construction ae mnpli he ea ing to th t t that h engageme t he i ee a d avail of he re ess and the end at h section 5 prevents the tendency oflongitudinal movement of the -section 5. These sections 4 and 5 are connected together by hinges 7. The sections 5 form an end post for each of the

end members

8 and 9. Thus it will be seen that the end members may be readily folded parallel to the back and thrown into an extended position at right angles to the back. Each of the front posts of the end members has formed therein a recess 10 covered by a slotted plate 11 for a purpose hereinafter described.

A bottom 12 forming the seat of the swing is hingedly connected to the back as indicated at 13 and in such a manner that the bottom may be folded parallel to one side of the back. A portion of the bottom is formed into a head rest 14 pivoted to the body and adapted to be held in an extended position by an arm 15 mounted for swinging movement. Each of the ends of the bottom has secured thereto a hook 16 adapted to have a bill portion pass through the slot of the plate 11. and engage therebehind.

From this arrangement it will be seen that the body is held against movement while the end members are held against outward swinging movement. Cooperating with the head rest 15 is a foot rest 17 that is hinged to and forms portion of the end member 9. For the purpose of supporting the foot rest in a substantial manner and at the same time allowing the same to be folded I provide the links 18. A plurality of hooks 19 are distributed at suitable points for holding the different parts in folded position. To complete the invention the end posts have securedvthereto chains 20.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it should be apparent that I provide a substantial construction in which the different parts can be folded in a very compact manner.

Having described my invention what I claim is:

1. A folding swing comprising a back, a bottom forming the seat of the swing and hinged to said back, end members having a detachable connection with the bottom and hinged to said back, and an extensible foot rest forming a portion of one of the end members.
