FOLDING BED AND TOILET-CASE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 490,888, dated January 31, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PERCY A. SANGUINETII, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding Beds and Toilet-Gases, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, two sheets, illustrating the invention and improvement, in which- Figure 1, Sheet 1, is a front elevation of my invention with the bed folded within the main case and the two-part toilet case closed in front of it. Fig. 2, a side elevation of Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is a horizontal section of the main case through the lower hinge N, Fig. 2, showing the bed brought to a horizontal position and the two-part toilet case run back into the main case. Fig. 4, an end view of the main case; the bed brought to a horizontal position for occupancy, and an end view of the towel receptacle. Fig. 5, a transverse vertical central section of the case at Fig. 1, a longitudinal section of the bed frame swung partly out and down, and the toilet case swung open. Fig. 6, abroken elevation of one end frame to which the two-part toilet case is hinged.

The nature and construction of my invention will best be comprehended by the followin g detail description.

0, represents the bottom, A the back, B the top, and D, D, the ends of the main case which is suitable to support and contain the devices hereinafter .enumerated and specified. An ordinary bed frame E has two pivot supports J secured to the said case, and it is represented as balanced by cords a, pulleys K and weight T, but it may be balanced by anyof the well-known means now employed for that purpose-I claim no invention in this regard.

Secured to the bottom 0 of the main case, near to and parallel with each end D, is a track U, and the sills W, of the side frames V, to which the toilet case is hung carry pivoted rollers L, L running on said track.

To the beams X, at the tops of the frames V, are pivoted rollers P, P which are guided by tracks Y above them, and secured to the main case. This is, that the said frames may be easily run to and fro in the main case. The parts M, M are respectively hinged to the frames V at N, N, so as to swing ninety degrees, or more.

A receptacle F, with a suitable cover, is hung to the lower portion of the main case by curved hinges H, H, which permit said receptacle to open from the bed E, lie under it as at Fig. 4, and to be elevated with the bed to form a portion of the front, or face of the main case, when the bed is shut therein, as shown at Figs. 1 and 2.

A cord G, in the drawings, is secured to the bed E and receptacle F to elevate it with the bed.Any other suitable device, may, however, be employed to keep the receptacle constantly in position with the bed, whether the same be in a horizontal position, or shut in the case.

One function of the receptacle is, it serves to counterbalance the weight of the bed, and therefore it serves three purposes; and when the toilet cases are closed above, it is securely held in place.

I do not confine myself to devoting the parts M, M to toilet purposes, but as may be required, to construct them to be used as ward-robes, a book-case, desk, or for other purposes.
