To all whom it may concern Be it known that I LOUIS R. Knuonn, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and Estate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Smokers Articles, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in smokers articles or containers, comprising a. cigar, ash and match holder.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a container for receiving and containing a lighted cigar, an underlying tray for the ashes, a box to contain matches and a surface upon which to scratch the matches, all made from a single piece of sheet metal.

The device is made of a single piece of sheet metal, which can be stamped out, and thereafter formed up to proper shape, in one operation, without soldered joints, thereby rendering the cost of construction relatively small and the use of sheet aluminum available.

A further object of my invention .is to secure a spring pressed clamp to the body of the article, whereby it may easily and quickly be removably attached to the edge of a table, arm of a chair, and the like.

Other and further objects of my invention will become readily apparent, to persons skilled in the art, from a consideration of the following description when taken in conjunction with the drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of the article.

In all the views the same reference characters are employed to indicate similar parts.

The main body portion of the device is stamped from a sheet of metal and consists of the underlying bowl, or ash receiver 10, the integral cigar rest, or trough 11, the match receiver 12, and the thumb piece 13. The trough like rest 11, is preferably tapered on either side, as at 14, to its ends 15, and is provided, near the receiver 10, with cutaway portions 16, on each side, to enable the user to grasp the cigar. He lays the trough 11, with the burnt or overlying the ash receiver 10, so that any ashes that may fall from the cigar will be caught by the receiver. The cut-away portions l6-16 enable the user to grasp the cigar readily and easily, in the act of removing it from the rest, or in placing it therein. The bottom part of the troughlike structure 11, is flat, as at 17, so as to cause the device to rest squarely upon the fiat surface upon which it may be placed; the flat surface 17, forming one member of the clamp, by which the device, as a whole, may be removably attached to a table, arm of a chair, or the like. The sides of the trough 11 are bent inwardly, as shown at 18, to form longitudinal grooves within which to contain a chemical strip of material 19 which may be taken from a box of safety matches, upon which surface to scratch the safety match in order to light it. The outer end portion 20 of the flat surface is corrugated, as shown in Fig. &, to provide a roughened surface upon which to scratch the ordinary parlor match in the process of lighting it, so that whatever sort of match may be contained in the boX 12, they may readily be lighted upon the surface 19 or 20, depending upon the character of the match.

The match boX 12 is provided with a notch 21 which enables the user of the device to readily seize a single match of a quantity that may be contained Within the boX.

The U-shaped member 23 is secured to the bottom of the bowl 10, by means of a rivet 24, and to the member 23 is hinged a clamping member 25. A rivet 26 passes through the U-shaped member and the clamping member and around it is bent a spring 29, having one of its ends 30 pressing against the bowl 10, the other end against the linger piece 31, as at 32.

The support to which the device is to be attached is contained between the spring pressed clamp 25, and the flat bottom wall 17. This leaves the bowl 10 overhanging the edge of the support. To move the clamp 25, the thumb is placed on the thumb-piece 13, and the index finger is pressed upon the projecting end 31 of 'the clamp, thereby raising the clamp against the resilient effect of the spring 28.

Having described my invention, what I 5' claim is A smokers article comprising in a one piece structure, a hemispherical ash con tainer; a trough-like cigar rest, projecting radially from one side thereof, the bottom 10 of the trough being fiat and each sidewall thereof formed with an inwardly opening crimp or groovenear the respective wall bases to provide guides for insertion of a match-scratching strip; in'combination with a spring clamp underlying the ash container 15 having an extended end under said trough to detachably secure the device to'a support.
