Description

E. E. MYERS 6L 1. C. ANGSTEAD.
PAINTER'S BUCKET AND'BRUSH RETAINER. APPLICATION FILED-L24. 1916.
1,259,896. Patented Mar. 19, 1918 To all whom it may concern:
nfnrrnn srrrrns PATENT oF rC- v ELMER E. MYERS AND JASPEBC, ANGS'IEAD, or wArnnvr Ln, wnsrinve roivf rnmrnnis BUCKET AND'ZBRUSH RETAINER.
Be it known that we, ELMER E. MYERS and JASPER C. ANGSTEAD, citizensof the United States, residing at aterville, in the county of Douglas and State of lhlashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Painters Bucket and Brush Retainers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to painters bucket and brush retainers, the object being tolprovide a carrier adapted to receive paint, buckets, brushes, etc., and to support the same on a ladder.
Another object is to equip the carrier with retaining means adapted to embrace the rungs and stiles of the ladder, for support- 7 mg the carrier and also for preventing displacement of the same.
The above and other objects and advantages of this invention will be in part,
described, and in part understood from the following description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a top plan view of the device constructed in accordance with our invention.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the in vention, illustrating the application of the same.
Fig. a is a front elevational View of the with the stiles oi the ladder.
Fig. 5 is a similar view, showing only one of the arms engaged with a ladder stile.
In the drawings, in order to illustrate the application of our invention, a ladder 1 is shown which may be of the usual or any dosired form.
Our improved bucket and brush retainer in this instance comprises a body or carrier 2 which is shown to be of a rectangular configuration, although any desired configuration may be used. The carrier inth-is in-' stance is shown as made of sheetmetal and is equipped with bails or handles 3. The
Specification of Letters Patent.

bails are pivotally engaged to the carrier intermediate the ends of the latter and in proximity to the upper margin thereof.
ence of the same with the contents of the carrier, and in order to permit convenient accessibility to the carrier. 7
Rigidly secured to the opposite ends of the 7 carrier 2 are a pair of wire strands 4:, which are of I an identical configurat on. Each strand has one endthereof extended above 7 the upper margin of the carrier 2 and is bent over to provide a hook 5 for engagement with any one of the rungs of theladder l. The opposite end 6 of the hook is bent at right angles and secured to the side of the carrier, the terminalthereofbeing bent laterally to provide an arm 7. The arms 7 are adapt ed to embrace the ladder stiles, thereby preventing lateral displacement of the carrier onthe ladder. As is well known, painters ladders usually Widen. toward their lower ends and consequently at some points of the ladder it will be impossible for both arms 7 to embrace both ladder stiles. However,
-upon reference to Fig. 5 of the drawings, it
will be noted. that either arm will suffice to retain the carrier from lateral displace ment. I
It will therefore be seen that the hooks are used to pendently support the carrier 2, while the arms7 will embrace the ladder stiles in order to prevent displacement of the carrier.
tioned in the carrier 2, the latter also serving as a supporting means for the brushes.
The brushes may, if desired, be introduced through the opening 8 in the sides and ends of the carrier.
It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings coniprehend only the general and preferred In use it will be, of course, understood that the paint buckets are posiembodiment of our invention and that various minor changes in details of construction, proportlon and arrangement of parts may be made within the scope of the ap ended claim without sacrificing any of t e advantages of our invention.
We claim: 7 ing formed to provide an arm to engage a A painters bucket and brush retainer for ladder stile.
ladders includin ie carrier and Wire strands carried by the arrier' and secured thereto, Y 7 he AD 5 one terminal of each strand beingformed V to provided hook for engagement with a Witnesses: rung of the ladder to pendently support the 'MILFORD SMART, earner, the opposite end of each strand'be- L. J. YOUNG.
