To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER CHARLES Lrnonnnnno, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Reading, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in T heaterSeat Constructions, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to seat construction and especially to seats of chairs adapted for use in theaters or other public places.

The primary object of the invention is to utilize the space beneath the seat for the purpose of providing a casing or closet in which the wraps of occupants of the seat may be placed in a manner to protect the same, the said casing being vertically disposed and of suflicient depth to permit of a coat or wrap being hung therein without creasing or folding.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a receptacle of the above class which is utilized to support the chair, the seat of the chair being of the hinged variety which is adapted to be swung down upon the top of the receptacle and form a closure for this end.

A; further object of the invention is the provision of a receptacle for the reception of wraps or the like which is provided with an adjustable bottom, this bottom being capable of being secured in an adjusted position so that the depth of the receptacle may be regulated to adapt it for the reception of long coats or cloaks, or the bottom may be.

lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists of the following novel combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings in detail the numeral 10 deslgnates a floor or other support, which may represent the floor of a theater or other public place. The chair may be of any preferred construction, which includes a back 11 and a hinged seat 12, which may or may not be provided with spring actuated means for normally retaining the same in its raised position, as is usually the case in seats of this construction.

Formed in the floor 10 directly beneath the seat is an opening 13, within which is located the closet or casing adapted to receive the wraps of the occupants of the seat. This casing is vertically disposed beneath the seat and is adapted to support the chair, the said casing extending above the floor 10 to a convenient height for this purpose. The casing also extends beneath the floor a sulficient depth to accommodate Wraps such as long coats or opera capes and the like.

The casing is preferably rectangular in cross section and includes the back wall 14, the opposite side walls 15 and the front wall 16. The front wall 16 is formed with an opening 17 which preferably extends from the floor to the top of the casing in order to provide convenient access to the interior thereof, it being sometimes desirable to reach within the casing below the depth provided for by the open top thereof, which is closed by the seat 12. Ifdesired this open ing 17 may be provided with a suitable door to close the same, this however, is not thought necessary. The casing is secured to the floor 10 by means of the L-shaped corner plates 18, whichengage the front, rear and sides of the casing and are secured to the floor around the opening 13, thus utilizing the casing as a support for the chair.

The casing isprovided with an adjustable bottom 19, which is preferably of box like construction and is adapted to slidingly fit within the walls of the casing, so as to raise and lower therein as desired. In order to adjust the bottom 19. it is provided with hoisting cables 20, which are secured at each side thereof and extend upwardly and pass over pulleys 21 and 22 mounted upon each of the side walls 15 of the casing. The pulleys 22 are located in juxtaposition to the rear wall 14, so that the cables 20 may be secured to the oppositely disposed arms 23 carried by a counterbalance weight 24:, which operates in a slot 25 formed in the back of the casing.
