To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, Lotus 13. An novrra. a citizen of Russia, residing at Tilden, in the county of Randolph and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful improvements in Umbrella-H01dcrs, of which the following is a specification.

'lhis invention relates to a holder for unibrellas, with the primary object of the invention being to provide a foldablo holder for this purpose which may be conveniently carried in the pocket if desirable and quickly set up to support; a wet umbrella in a vertical position and catch the dripp in Q'S therefrom.

With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel combination and. arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims,

The preferred embodiment of the invention. has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, although no restriction is necessarily made to the precise details of con struction therein shown, as changes, alterations, and modifications, within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

In the drawing 1- Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ulnbrella holder constructed in accordance with the invention, and showing the same in position to receive an umbrella.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the letter A designates an umbrella holder constructed in accordance with the invention in which a hollow shaft 5 has fixed thereto between its ends a notched and grooved collar 6 to which are hingedly connected at their upper ends, a plurality of legs 7, the lower ends of which have secured thereto caps of compressible material to prevent the surface upon which the holder is placed from becoming scratched by the legs 7. The legs 7 are pivotally connected adjacent their upper ends with links 8.

with the upper ends of the links 8 and has formed therein a central opening 10 through which the shaft 5 is passed, said sheet being held firmly pressed against the upper face of the collar (3 by an annular enlargement 10 at the lower end of a sleeve 11 into which the portion of the shaft 5 above the collar (i is received. The upper end of the sleeve 11 enlarged to form a tapered socket 12 for contact with the cover collar on an umbrella, rod when the rod. is inserted on the shaft 5.

The lower ends of the links 3 are pivotally connected to a grooved and notched collar 13 movable longitudinally of the shaft 5 below the collar (3 and between which and the collar 13 is arranged on the shaft 5, a coiled expansion spring l-i which normally serves to hold the legs 7 and links 8 folded a gainst the shaft- 5.

31 pin 15 which is passed transversely through the shaft 5 extends beyond the walls of a pair of alined and longitudinally extending slots 16 in a sleeve 17 formed integral with the collar 13, said pin serving to prevent rotation of the collar and sleeve upon the shaft as well as to limit the extent to which the sleeve may be moved vertically upon the shaft 5.

A. lever 18 for raising the collar 13 on the shaft 5 against the influence of the spring 1 1 includes a pair of cams 19 between which the sleeve 17 is passed, with the cams ful crumed upon the extending portions of the pin 15 and connected by an operating handle 20. Each of the cams 19 is provide with a pair of straight faces 21 and 22 for engagement with the lower face of the collar 13,

When the holder is folded and it is desired to employ the same to hold a wet umbrella in a vertical position, the umbrella is held with the handle down, so that the end of the rod may be inserted within the shaft 5 until the cover collar on the urnbrella rod engages the socket 12. The lever 18 is now operated to cause the collar 13 to move the legs and links forming a part of the holder to extended position at which time the straight faces 22 on the cams will bear against the collar 13 and prevent the collapse of the holder.

The position of the umbrella is now reversed, So that the holder may be placed upon a suitable support, such as a floor, or the like, and in which position it will not only maintain the umbrella in an upright position but the sheet of material 9 will serve as a receptacle to collect the drippings from the umbrella, so that the support upon Which the holder is placed will not be injured by the water.

When the umbrella is withdrawn from the holder, the lever 18 may be operated to permit the spring to move the collar 13 upon the shaft and cause the legs 7 and links 8 to assume their folded position.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is at once apparent that a holder for um brellas has been provided which is comparatively simple in construction, although strong and durable in use.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:

1. An umbrella holder comprising a holcollar fixed to said shaft, legs swingingly connected with said collar, links pivotally connected with said legs, a sheet material through which said shaft is passed connected with said links above their pivotal connection with the legs, a spring pressed collar movable longitudi- Copies 0! this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing rename nally of said shaft pivotally connected with said links below their pivotal connection with said legs, and means on said shaft engaging said collar operable to move the same on the shaft. 7

2. An umbrella holder comprising a hollow shaft, a collar fixed to said shaft be tween its ends, a sheet proof material above said collar having a central opening therein through which said shaft is passed, a sleeve on said shaft engaging said sheet of flexible material with said collar, legs hingedly connected at their upper ends with said collar, links pivotally connected between their ends with said legs and connected at their upper ends with the corners of said sheet, a second collar pivotally connected with the lower ends of said links movable longitudinally of said shaft, a coiled expansion spring on said shaft engaging said collars, and a cam lever on said shaft engaging the movable collar of flexible water and operable to move the same on the shaft I;'
