ASA L. SAWYIEiR, or nasr'rnov nnncn, nHonn'IsLAnn, assienon T :nAL AM-mon i 00., A COPARTNERSHIP CONSISTING OF or rawrncxn'r, RHODE'ISLAND.
To all whom it may concernf- Zen of the United States, and resident of East Providence, R. 1., have invented certain new. and useful'Irnprovements in Clasp- Pins," of which'the following is a specification.. i
:This invention .rclatesto clasp pins and is more particularly intcndedfor use in con nection with that type of pin known as li'ngerie pins 7 which'are commonly employed to holdin place "the" shoulder straps iof underwear or'other garments, although said in:- vention is applicable'to other types" ofpin aswell. I
One of the objects of theinvention is to provide a pin of this class that shallfbe reliable and certain 'in its action and be so constructed as to prevent the accidentalopening of the clasp when in use'and also to minimize the tendency of-the lace or othercation and will be" definedfi'n the claims hereto annexed. V v V In the accompanying drawings I t have illustrated the preferred mode of embodying the principles of this invention in which, Figure 1 is a side elevation showingthe completepin in its normal position of use .e r
' prO ect ng into the interior of the holder 7 present afsmooth' inclinedisurface which affords no sharp edge or shoulder against which, the lace shoulder straps can catch on the shoulder outlined in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the retaining means for the pad holder;
device or holder. 7
Fig. 5 is aside elevation thereof. Fig. 6 is an end elevation thereof. 7 Fig. 7 is an enlarged view of the complete device assembledshowing a central section through the pad and'its holder Fig.4 is a plan'view of the pad retaining In the practice of my invention according to the form illustrated in the drawings the pin proper is shown as consisting of a single o piece of appropriate sheetmetalbent to form two approximately parallel arms (1, 6, provided at their free" ends-respectively with reversely bent or curved hook-like members a b, which are so arranged in relatlon to,

" V Specification of Letters Patent. "Patented mg forced'over'the exterior of the hook-aft I into mutually interlocking position f l pref'cr to inake these hook: members-off .60 I 'find that this construction makes a more conca vo-convex 'cross-se ction partly because reliable interlocking. connection with gless liability to accidental opening or springing apart and partly-because"itprevents any lateral movementof the'interlockedfarms, with relation'to each other "and falsojbecause'} 7 such curvature :"tends to prevent the lace shoulder strapfrom-catching upon the thin '7 edge of the hook whenin use so as to lessen which in'this case comprisesla strip of'thin if sheet metal 0 having itslateralje'clges upset I to form flanges "0 which may be intersected at intervals by notche's to' allow the circula l tion of EUI' iZhIQLIglI the holder in' contact with'j the pad d which is'made of absorbent cotton, felt or other suitable'material. The T opposlte ends of the holder'c'are bentldownf toform projecting flanges cwhich'are pref J9 erably notched at t'heir. middle portions "as shown at 05in order to receiver-cooperating I tongues a whichare preferably struckfup: fromthe under arm orv member a of the' 'pin in position to pass through said notchesfan'd v r have their ends preferably extended-into" 'j' in each endjof'the V small holes 0 formed wall of theholdei-f, V t The sloping end walls 'of'. the holder .0
and the sloping tongues a with their ends when being inserted within the pin.
It will be observed that the lower or the shoulder and also to give a certain reing th'e'interlockingengagement of the pin I under the pressure exerted thereon by' .the straps passing between the two membersm 1" o5-.; The upper face of the holder 0' is" provided: 7' I with aperture 0' to allow the escape of the scent fumes while the notches in the ,side flanges c not only aid inmaintainmg-the circulation of air through thepad but also serve to give the scent pad itself an appreciable degree of flexibility.
l 'As-the pad holder is a separateflexible member mechanically attached at its two ends to the curved arm of the pin it doesnot interfere with the proper bending or placing of the-pin and yet by being placed on the lower member of the pin it is less likely to obstruct the insertion ofthe straps only is the efficiency and reliability of the pin not diminished by the application of the scent pad holder but there isal'so the further advantage that'the holder maybe a readily removed and replaced when desired.
Whatlclaim is: a a, 1. A clasp pin embrac ng incombination two cooperating arms having their free ends formed to have interlocking but detachable engagement with each other, apad holding 7 member and means for securing said pad holding member to the inside fa'ceof one of said arms while leaving the arm free to bend or yield transversely its length, substantiglly as described.
2. A clasp pin comprising a pair of 50 operatingmiembers having their free ends i I bent to form" cooperative hook members each having, a concave-convex cross section 'whereby lateral movement of said arms in relation to each other is prevented when they are interlocked, one of said arms'being longitudinally, curved, substantially as de scribed.
' 7 3. A clasp pin embracmg in its construcntion a spring metal strip bent toform two approximately parallel arms whose free ends are formed with means for lnterlockingly engaging each other, one of saidarms I being provided with retaining members proving'zmember' arranged on'the inside face of of the a curved armwh'ile permitting I said uma; p arm to flex under stra n'in a transverse di rect on, substantially as described.
