Description

F. PETERSON. V
Trunk Guards.
Patented April1 6,l872.
mlnesses UNITED STATES FRED. PETERSON, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRUNK-GUARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,756, dated April 16, 1872.
IMPROVED TRUNK-GUARD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED. PETERSON, of Rockford, Winnebago county, State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Trunk- Guard; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawingformingpart of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan or perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of B B B in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of a rubber guard to be fastened around the edges of the trunk, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view of the same.
The object of the invention is to ali'ord protection to the corners and edges of the trunk, and especially to prevent the bursting of locks, which generally results from the severe concussions the trunks are subject to.
B B B, Fig. 1, are pieces of rubber of sufficient elasticity to break the force of the concussion, thus preventing injury to trunk and lock, and are inserted and held in their places by means of a shoulder made in a dovetailin g form, as in sectional view, Fig. 2, and are otherwise secured by means of tacks and iron bands. The aperturesin which these guards are placed are made by clipping the corners of the different sides and ends of the trunk before the trunk is put together, andthese guards placed in position before the trunk is nailed together, thus securing a close and perfect fit. The rubber pieces B, I propose to place at each corner of the trunk, thus affording the same protection in whatever position the trunk may fall.
I claim, therefore, as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The elastic, corner-pieces B, provided with tenons, as specified, and attached to the cut corners of the trunk by means of straps or bands, in the manner shown and described.
FRED. PETERSON.
