To all whom it may concern.'

Be it known that l, ROBERT A. DUNNING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bath, in the county of Sagadahoc and State of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvements in B0X-Loops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to what are known as box-loops, adapted to engage or receive the end of a strap after it has been engaged with a buckle.

The-object of the invention is to provide improved means for bracing and strengthening the loop and holding it in place, so that the end of a strap may be readily engaged therewith.

A further object of the invention is to provide improved means for .the purpose above mentioned ,which shall be simple in their construction, cheap to manufacture, readily and easily applied, and thoroughly efficient in their operation. In box-loops as heretofore constructed the same were liable to become broken down and out of shape, thus impairing their usefulness and making it in some cases almost impossible to place the end of a strap therein.

The invention consists in the combination, with a box-loop, of a strengthening band or bands secured thereto and adapted to preserve the shape or form of the same.

The invention further consists in certain details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box-loop, showing my improved bracing or strengthening bands secured thereto. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section.

In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, A represents the loop, which is of the usual well-known construction. Upon the loop A are arranged any desired number of strengthening or bracing plates, B. I preferably employ two, and locate one at each end of the loop. The said bracing or strengthening plates B each consists of a metal plate having its ends turned downwardly, as shown, to bear against the sides or walls of the loop A, and thus prevent the same from being broken down, the upper or top portion ofthe bracing or strengthening plate tting over the front face of the loop A, and thus preventing the same from being worn or otherwise injured. The upper or top portions of the plates B are out out, as shown at c, to form pointed prongs or barbs b,which are turned inwardly, and are adapted to be passed through the loop A, and then bent against the inner side of the same, thus holding the plates B in place. The ends of the plates B are provided with holes or openings c, for the passage of clips d, which are substantially U shape in form. rlhe said clips d pass through the side walls of the loop A, and are then bent in opposite directions against the inner sides of the loop A, thus holding said ends ofthe bracing-plates securely in place.

I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact manner shown and described of securing the strengthening-plates B to the loop, as other means than those described might be employed to equal advantage and clearly fall within the scope of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, with a harness-loop, of a strengthening plate or plates secured thereto, said plates fitting over the outer face of the loop, and having bent ends to engage the side walls of the latter, substantially as set forth. v

2. The combination, with a harness-loop, of a strengthening plate or plates having downturned ends provided with holes or openings,

and clips for securing said ends to the side walls of the loop, substantially as set forth.

3. The combination, with a harness-loop, of astrengthening plate or plates having downturned ends provided with holes or openings, clips for securing said ends, and prongs or barbs on the upper face of said plates, substantially as set forth.
