SPECIFICATION forming 'part of Letters Patent No. 286,329, dated october 9, Issa,

To all whom it may concern:

Be :it-known that I, GnanLns B. PUsHnE, a

citizen of the United States, residing at lWIasonV City, in the county-of Cerro Gordo and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Foot- VScraper, of which the following is a specificaject to produce a devicewhich'shall be sin1- ple, convenient, and inexpensive, and in which the brushes may be easily renewed when worn out, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out inthe claims.

In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure lis a perspective view of my improved foot-scraper, the brush having been removed. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device complete, and Fig.- i is a transverse sectional view.

A in the drawings designates the frame or body of my improved foot-scraper, which consists, mainly, of a strip or piece of metal, preferably wrought-iron, which is mounted in a vertical position on suitable feet, B B, the

lower ends of which have perforations C C,`to receive the screws or nails by which the device is fastened to the floor in position for operation. The body-piece A is bent so as to forni a loop or recess, D, extending for about one-half its length` from one end toward the middle. In the piece A, at the outer end of the recessD, is formed a vertical slot, E, and at the inner end of said recess a horizontal slot, F, is formed. y

Gr is a clasp, formed of strong spring-metal,` and having at one end a catch, II, adaptedto engage the vertical slot E 4in the piece A. The other end of the said clasp is twisted to ahorizontal position, so as to pass throughthe horizontal slot F at the inner end of recess D, and it is providedwitha slot, I, to receive a wedgeshaped key or fastener, J. The clasp G is bent so as to form a recess, K, in the side adjoining the recess D of the body-piece A.

' L is a brush, which may be made of broomcorn', of rolled textile fabricsuch as old carpetingQ-or of any other suitable material. This is inserted between the body A and clasp G in the recesses D K, and it is clamped and held securely in position by driving the wedge J in the slot I of the clasp. The brush is made of such length .that its lower end shall rest upon the iioor, thereby preventing the said brush from slipping out of its proper position. The upper edges of the recesses D and K of the body A and clasp G are also providedwith inturned iianges M, which will enter the sides of the brush and hold the latter with absolute cleaning the soles of the feet, which may after- Y ward be wiped upon the brush. The brush, lwhen worn out, may be readily replaced by cutting down an old broom and securing it by the clasp.

I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States 1. The combination, with the body-piece A, having the recess D and slot-s E and F, of the clasp G, having catch H at the end thereof, andV having its other'end bent to a horizontal position, and provided with a slot, I, and the wedge J, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination of the body A, mounted on suitable feet, and having recess D, slots E F, and inturned iange M at the upper edge of the recess D, the clasp G, having recess K, provided with inturned flange M at its upper edge, catch H, and a twisted end provided with a slot, I, the wedge J, and a brush held between the body A and clasp G, and having its lower end resting upon the floor, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
