T. MOGRORY.
110011 CHECK,
Patented Mar. 12,1895.

DOOR-CHECK.
:SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,507, dated March 12, 1895.
Application filed June 6, 1894. $erial No. 513,616. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS MoGRoRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door- Ohecks, of which the following is aspecifica- Lion, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to providea door holder or check of simple and economical construction, which will effectually hold a door in any desired position, as more fully set forth hereinafter.
In the accompanying draWings:-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a door holder constructed in accordance with my invention. of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified construction.
The device is made of a single piece of wire bent into the form illustrated in the drawings, comprising substantially horizontal side bars a, the forward ends of which rest upon the floor and being coiled at their rear ends to form guiding eyes b, the latter being connected by a rear bar 0. The ends of the wire extend in nearly vertical lines to form posts at and from .thence are bent down on an incline to form bars 0 which extend to the forward ends of the bars a.
The device asawhole is in the nature of a wedge which may be placed under the door and when the latter is moved the ends of the posts at are forced down into the floor. On marble or smooth wooden floors it is desirable to prevent the scratching or indenting of the floor and to that end the feet of the posts are incased in sockets f of rubber or similar material as shown in Fig. 2.
In the modified structure shown in Fig. 3 two of these devices are shown as connected at their forward ends, and these may he slipped underthe edge of the door so that one will act on each of its sides and the door be prevented from moving in either direction.
If desired the bars a may be shortened and the eyes I) and the bar 0 omitted altogether, but the structure shown is deemed preferable.
It will be apparent that the device may also be employed for retaining or looking Window sashes in position, by inserting it between the sash and its guide.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A door holder made of a strip of bent wire comprising side bars as a, vertical posts as d, inclined bars 6 extending from said posts to the forward end of said side bars, and guiding eyesas in formed at the ends of said side bars, substantially as specified.
2. A door holder or check comprising two pieces of wire each bent to form inclined bars e and posts d, said pieces of wire being looped or joined together at their forward ends to form oppositely facing wedges, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
THOS. MOGRORY.
Witnesses:
