OTTO LEO CLEMAN AND ARMANI) PORRET, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 19 1918.
Be it known that we, OTTo LEO CLEMAN and ARMAND Ponnnr, of the city of Toronto. in the county of York and Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in Brushes; and we hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to a brush having therein a liquid-container comprising a reservoir and a distributing chamber, connected by a valve-closed port, by which the flow of liquid from the reservoir through the distributing chamber to the bristles may be sen.- sitively regulated to the requirements of its use, as hereinafter more fully set forth and illustrated in the drawing which represents a longitudinal section of a brush suitable for hair or body treatment.
In carrying out the invention, the brush comprising any type of brush back a, bristles b, and handle 0, is formed with an orifice (Z to receive a removable container 6.
In the upper part of the container is a res-- ervoir f, and in the lower part is a distributing chamber 9 separated from the reservoir f by a horizontal partition it having a port It by which the liquid may pass from the reservoir to the distributing chamber. Opposed to the port it is a valve 2' having a threaded stem 2' working through a stationary nut in the container 6 and provided on the outer side of the container with a handle 70 for its manipulation, whereby the valve may be set to open or close the port to respectively permit or stop the flow of the liquid to the distributing chamber, from which it mav pass through the outlet orifices Zto the surface under treatment.
The container is formed with an inlet orifice m into the reservoir, through which the liquid may be introduced.
The container is of such relative depth to the bristles that when it is inserted through the orifice it does not extend to the bottom of the bristles, the advantage of this being that the brush can be employed upon the scalp or other surface without the possibility of the container coming into contact with it.
The purpose of the brush was originally intended for the applications of pharmaceutical preparations, lotions, and remedies to the scalp, but the same brush, or a brush constructed on the same principle, can be used for the treatment of skin troubles and other purposes.
Various changes within the scope of the claim may be ncade in the details of the brush-construction without departing from the principle of the invention; for instance, the reservoir and distributing chamber may be made part of the brush body, instead of constituting a removable container, and the type and operation of the valve may be varied to meet the requirements of such other alterations, and the brush may be used for floor-polishing, cleaning and other purposes, the liquid introduced into the container being suitable for the purpose for which the brush is intended.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we cla m as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A brush, comprising a handle, a brush back formed with an orifice and bristles, and a container removablv inserted through the orifice but not extending to the bottom of the bristles, sa d co tainer having a horizontal partition dividing it into two compartments, one above the other and communicating with each other by an appropriate port through the partition, the upper compartm nt constituting a reservoir having an inlet through which the liquid may be introduced into it. and the lower compartment constituting a distributing chamber having in its bottom surface perforations for the flow of the liquid to the surface under treatment. a valve closing said port and means for manipulating the valve to open and close the port to respectively permit or stop the flow of the liquid from the reservoir to the dis ributing chamber.
