My invention" relates to improvements in toilet articles used, for applying liquids to the scalp when dyeing the hair or when re- 'moving dsndrufi from the scalp while conch ing the heir. a I
The invention has reference more porrticulsrly to an article comprising e comb and s container for a liquid. reinovebly associated with the comb.
[in object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive and simple. fountain comb for dyeing the hair or removing dandruii from the some, in which the container is removable from the comb and can be easily cleaned and in which the flow of liquid is controlled by pressure applied to the con teiner, the liquid being distributed evenly to the surface of the teeth of the comb.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a fountain conib having a flexible and resilient container disposed over the comb and in which pressure applied by the fingers of the hand is distributed uniformly over.
the surfnce of the container.
Reference is to he lied to the accompany ing drawings forming apart ofthis specification in which like characters of refer -enee indicate corresponding ports in all the views, and in Which bodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a verticel section of the some, showln it in normal position; Fig. 3 IS a, sum. or section showing the some in application; and Fig. 4 l
is a perspective-view ofthe comb with the container removed. I
Rcferringto the drawings, 10 represents a flexible. receptacle made of resilient meiteriel, preferehly'cylindricel in form, having a longitudinal reinforcement fiend an opening provided with a plug ltl' through which the liquid is introduced into the conoainer or receptacle. The reinforcing portion 11 is interiorly providechwith e'longiztudinal recess 12 having a l -shape incross section and forming part of the container;
" A series of transverse orifices 13 is provided in the .reinforcingportion 11, passing through said. V-shaped recess and therefore forming discharge orifices on both sides of the reinforcing portion 11 of the container 10. Engaging the orifices 13 and projecting" through the some are teeth 14- of a comb 1,5,. the body '16 of which is preferably turned up, as shown in the drawings, and made to contact With the lateral surfeceof the container, as shown best in Fig. 2. In consequence of the resiliency oi the material from which the container is made, the teeth of the comb engaging in the discharge orifices close theseme and prevent the liquid in said container from outiioiving when in normal position; see Fig.
When the article is in use,es shown in Fig. 3, the portion of the container toward the. extremities of the teeth of the comb is forced away from the teeth and thereby the discharge orifices on this side. of the comb are expanded by the pull allowing the esca pernent of liquid which Will naturally flow along the teeth ofthe comb. The opposite side of the container being forced to ward. the raised portioniti oi the-comb is compressed, and. consequently the orifices on this side of the reinforcement 11 will prevent any outflow of liq'uid through the some,
To make the outflow of liquid uniform at all parts of the container, the some is provided on its exterior lateral surface with. a rigid member 17 attached to the materiel of the container in any suitable wa y. Said member is preferably located at onengle' of approximately 90 degrees from the reinforcing portion. 1.1, end s always di'snoseol toward the extremities of the teeth of the comb. When using the article, finger vpressure 18 applied to the member 17.
It can be easily seen that any sheped comb can be, usedjn connection with the corn tamer as long as the discharge or fices are made'to fit tight with the teeth of the comb,
and the amount of outflow through the discharge orifices can be easily controlled by pullingon. the container to make the dis charge orifices expend sccording to the de' sired discharge. The comb-can be easily Withdravv'n from the discharge orifices of the -c ntainer to be cleaned or used for ordinary purposes, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters container of resilient material having an exteriorly longitudinal reinforcing ortion and discharge orifices in said rein orcing portion, and a conib having its teeth engaging said discharge orifices and projecting throu h the same, for the purposes set forth.
n an erticleof the class described, a
flexible container having a rigid member on its lateral surface and a series of discharge orifices, and a comb having its teeth engaging said orifices and projecting therethrough, said comb forming a support for said container.
4. In a device of the character described, the combination of a liquid container having a flexible portion provided with a discharge orifice, and a comb associated with said container and having a tooth rojeeting through said orifice, whereby wlien the flexible portion of the container is distorted, the'liquid will be discharged above said tooth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
