Application May 28, 1930. SerialNo. 456,657
1 Claim.
This invention relates. to an improved toilet brush of the fountain variety, and it has more particular reference to a long-handled brush having an especially designed spray head constructed to accommodate a chemical soap to'permit the user to apply soapy water to the body for cleansing purposes.
More specifically stated, the novelty is predicated upon the specific structural arrangement of details comprising a handle having a water passage formed therethrough and communicating with a hollow head, said head being constructed to provide a container for a cake of soap, and including an apertured cover plate having a multiplicity of rubbing bristles applied thereto.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a simple, economical, and practical type of brush made of two parts of rubber whereby to provide the desired flexible properties and to permit convenient and comfortable application of soapy water and subsequent rinsing.
The particular details and their relative association and arrangement will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a brush constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the head construction.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the head.
As before stated, the brush is of all rubber of appropriate flexible properties. It includes a long handle 4 having a bore 5 therethrough defining a longitudinal water passage. At the intake end of the handle is a beaded neck 6 forming a connection for a water supply hose (not shown).
At the opposite end is the head which is generally designated by the numeral 7. The head is of two parts, namely the hollow body portion or container 8 and the removable cover plate 9.
The body portion 8 is here shown as of general rectangular configuration so as to form a receptacle for a cake of soap (not shown).
The open face thereof is provided with an outstanding marginal retaining flange 10. The flange is adapted to receive the channeled rim 11 of the cover. The cover comprises a flexible diaphragm portion 12 provided with a multiplicity of water discharge ports 13 formed on its exterior surface with a multiplicity of rubber projections 14 providing the bristles.
By allowing the water to circulate slowly through the passage 5 and into the soap container, soapy water will be produced which is discharged through the distributing ports 13. Then by proper manipulation, the soapy water can be rubbed against the skin by way of the flexible bristles 14. In order to keep the distributing ports 13 free from obstruction by the cake of soap, the bore 5 which defines the water passage, has only that wall thereof beveled which is adjacent the working surface of the brush. This beveled wall is indicated by the numeral 15. It isevident that by this construction the beveled wall 15 deflects the water entering the container between the working surface of the brush and the cake of soap, thereby forcing the soap against the interior of the back of the brush, and keeping the distributing ports open for a free passage of the water.
By causing the water to flow rapidly through the passage and head, the water will be suificiently clear for rinsing purposes.
The gist of the invention, it will be understood, is in the provision of a long-handled all rubber self-soaping brush of appropriate flexible properties susceptible of accommodating an ordinary bathtub hose. The general design and configuration of the brush is unique and fashionable for the purpose intended and facilitates expeditious and dependable use.
The result of applying the soap in proper proportions and subsequently rinsing through the a medium of the same brush is a distinguishable advantage. Then too, the provision of the snap on cover, allowing replacement of the cake of soap is a notable point.
The foregoing and other features and advantages will be quite clear to persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates, for which reason a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in shape, size, and rearrangement of details coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice if desired.
I claim:
As a new article of manufacture, a fountain brush of the class described comprising a rectangular hard rubber container for a cake of soap, said container having a marginal retaining flange, a cover detachable from said container and forming the working face of the brush, said detachable cover having an internally grooved rim receiving said flange, and being also provided with water discharge ports and rubber pro.- jections forming bristles on the outer face of the cover, a handle integral with and extending from an end wall of the container and having a water passage extending therethrough and communicating with the container at substantially the center of said end wall, said handle having hose connecting means at its free end, said water passage having that wall only thereof adjacent to the cover bevelled at the outlet of the handle to direct the water between the cake of soap and the cover.
