MANIFOLDING- SALES-BOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 19, 1918.
Application filed June 15, 1916. Serial No. 103,741.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. DUN- NING, a citizen of the United States, residing atAlliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Manifolding Sales-Books, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in sales books, and more particularly to manifolding sales books in which a triplicate record may be simultaneously made of each transaction; and the object of the improvement is to combine a series of folded sheets forming original and duplicate leaves with a series of intervening triplicate sheets, all bound together at one end, with a carbon interleaf secured at the bound end of the book and another carbon interleaf secured at the other end of the book, for making copies of the original leaf upon the obverse face of the duplicate and triplicate leaves.
The objects of the invention thus set forth in general terms, together with other and ancillary advantages, may be attained by the construction and arrangement illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part hereof in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the book with some of the leaves slightly raised to illustrate the construction and arrangement thereof;
Fig. 2, a fragmentary side elevation of the book with the manifolding means in operative position;
Fig. 3, a fragmentarv plan view of one of the sheets of the pad, which are folded to form the original and duplicate leaves; and
Fig. 4, a plan view of one of the sheets of the pad, which form the triplicate leaves.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
The book consists of a pad 1 having a back 2, a plurality of folded sheets 3 and single sheets l, and transfer sheets 5 and 6 for the sheets 3 and 4 respectively.
The folded sheets 8 and the single sheets 4 are alternately arranged and bound together at the lower end of the back 2 as by means of a binder 7 to form the pad 1, the folded sheets 3 forming a plurality of sets of original and duplicate leaves 3 and 5 and the single sheets 4 forming a plurahty of triplicate leaves.
The original and duplicate leaves are of the well known paragon type, the duplicate leaf which is equal in length to the length of the pad and slightly longer than the original leaf, being bound at its lower end, while the lower end of the original leaf is free; and the triplicate leaf which is also equal 1n length to the length of the pad, is at its lower end together with the duplicate leaf. The original and duplicate leaves are preferably provided with a suitable printed form, and the triplicate leaves are preferably colored and may if desired be provided with a printed form, as shown.
The transfer sheet 5 for the duplicate leaves Which is preferably in the form of a single-faced sheet of carbon paper, is bound at one end to the lower end of the pad, as by means of the binder 7, so that it may be readily inserted between the original and duplicate leaves; and the transfer sheet 6 for the triplicate leaves, which is also preferably in the form of a single faced sheet of carbon paper, is secured to the back of the pad at its upper end, and when extended around the upper free ends of the leaves may be readily inserted between the duplicate and triplicate leaves.
It will be understood that the line of fold of the original and duplicate leaves is perforated or weakened as at 8, and that the duplicate and triplicate leaves are provided with transverse perforated or weakened lines near their lower ends as at 9 in order to permit them to be readily detached from each other and from the pad.
In use, it will be evident that with the book in the position as shown in Fig. 2, a record written upon the original leaf 3 will be simultaneously recorded upon the duplicate leaf 3* and the triplicate leaf 4, whereupon by grasping and lifting the original leaf, the transfer sheet 5 may be thrown back and the original leaf, together with the duplicate leaf readily detached from the pad along the weakened line 9 and then severed from each other, and disposed of as desired. The transfer sheet 6 is then thrown back and the triplicate leaf also detached from the pad and put in its proper place.
The pad may now be arranged for an other transaction by inserting the transfer sheets in their-proper place upon the duplicate and triplicate leaves, either one of which transfer sheets may be inserted first, as may bound be desired, Without interfering With the subsequent insertion of the other.
It Will thus be seen that a sales book is provided which is not only simple in construction and cheap to manufacture, but which may be very easily and rapidly manipulated and is efficient and practical.
To those skilled in the art of making devices of the class described, various alterations in construction and differing embodiments and applications of my invention will suggest themselves Without departing from the spirit and scope thereof.
I claim l. A sales book including a single pad having a back and a plurality of alternating folded and single sheets bound together at one end, a transfer sheet secured at the Gcpies of this patent may be obtained for bound end of the pad and adapted to be in-' serted between the folds of the folded sheets, and a second transfer sheet securedto the back at the other end of the pad so that it may be inserted between the folded and sinthe other end of the pad so that it may be in serted between the duplicate and triplicate leaves.
