Description

C. L. WELSCHER.
SKIRT GAGE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 10. 1917.
Patented Jan. 15, 1918.
I ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT @FFECE.
CHRISTINA L. WELSCHER, OF FONTANELLE, IOWA.
SKIRT-GAGE.
Application filed February 10, 1917.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, CHnisTmA L. \Vnnscirnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fontanelle, in the county of Adair and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Gages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to skirt marking devices.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a device by means of which skirts may be conveniently, quickly and accurate y marked so as to be made an equal distance from the ground around the bottom of the same and thereby present a neat and well tailored effect.
further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this class by means of which skirts of various widths may be marked and to also enable its use in connection with short skirts such as worn by children.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device which is of exceedingly simple construction, easy to operate and is constructed in such a manner as to permit it to be readily transported for use from place to place.
With the above and other objects in view the iIU'ODtiOD consists of the following novel combination and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings andpointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in use, the lower portion of a ladys skirt being shown in connection therewith;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 f Fi 2; and
Fig. -l is an enlarged detailed sectional view on the line at% of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail the invention consists of a platform 10 which is preferably circular in shape, although it is of course obvious that the platform may be of any shape desired. The diameter of this platform is sufficient to permit the use of the device in connection with skirts of great width. Arranged at diametrically opposite points of the platform are supporting blocks 11, the said blocks being either rigidly or adjustably secured to the said platform. Formed in the upper edges of these blocks are vertical sockets 12, there Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 147,836.
being preferably two of such sockets in each of the blocks, though a greater number of sockets may be provided in order to widen the latitude of use of the device. Seated within the sockets 12 is one section of a telescopic member H, the socket 12 being provided with a set screw 15 by means of which the member 13 is adjusted to the required height. The upper end of the section 11 is provided with a notch, which forms a seat 16 for a removable ring 17 which is adapted to be loosely seated thereon. The inner telescopic members which are seated in the sockets 12 nearest the center of the platform are constructed similarly to the ones just described, with the exception that the section 14* is of greater length than the section 11, and the notch 16 of the section is adapted to receive a ring 18 of a lesser diameter than the ring 17. The purpose of making this section 16L of greater length than the section 14L is to permit the use of the device for marking the short skirts of children.
Various changes in the form and proportion of the invention may be made, for example, a greater number of rings of different diameters may be used, sockets and telescopic members being provided to acconnnodate such ring.
Having described the invention, what I claim is;
1. A skirt marking device comprising a round platform, circumferentially spaced adjustable telescopic members secured to said platform and rings removably positioned upon said telescopic members.
2. A skirt marking device comprising a round platform, circumferentially spaced adjustable telescopic members secured to said platform, said memberes being provided at their upper ends with notches and rings removably positioned within said notches.
3. A skirt marking device comprising a round platform, circumferentially spaced vertically arranged tubular members secured thereto, supporting members adjustably secured in said tubular members and rings of different diameters removably positioned upon said supporting members, the position of said members corresponding to the diameters of their respective rings.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
CHRISTINA L. WELSCHER.
