ALBERT WATERMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MARKER FOR BUST-FORMS.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Application led July 28,1906. Serial No. 328,219.
No. 843,378. Patented Feb. 5, 1907.
T all whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT WATERMAN, a citizen ol the United States, and a resident of y to the horizontal member 14 of a T-iitting l the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, l
C, and in the upper end of the vertical member 15 of said T-titting a post 16 is screwed or otherwise secured, and said post is made to enter the recess or aperture in the bustform, so that said bust-forni can be freely revolved on the said post. The body-arm B is revolubly supported by means of a standard 17, which is secured to the base A in any suitable or approved manner' and which enters the lower portion of the body member of said T-itting C, as is shown in Fig. 1. Thus it will be observed that the body-arm may revolve entirely around the bust-form A and that the bust-form, as stated, may be independently revolved upon said support.
A bearing D is mounted-to slide upon the vertical member 13 of the body-arm said bearing having an aperture 18 therein, which loosely receives said vertical member 18 of the body-arm, and said bearing D is held in adjusted position on the member 13 ot' the bodyearm by means ot' a set-screw 1Sa or the equivalent thereof.
At one side of the vertical opening 1S in the bearing D a horizontal opening 19 is made, and a marking-arm E is held to turn and slide in said opening 19. The markingarm E at its outer end is usually provided with a knob-handle 20 or the equivalent thereof, and said marking-arm may be solid or tubular, as desired; but at the inner end of said marking-arm a segmental longitudinal recess 21 is made, in which recess the inner end of a chalk 22 or other marking material is introduced and held by means ol1 rings 23, usually elastic rings, or by other means. Elastic rings, however, are preferred, since the chalk or marking material is held thereby ihmly to the marking-arm and the attachment is expeditiously and conveniently ei'- fected.
1n the construction which has been described it is evident that the marking-arm may be brought to bear upon any point of the bust-form, either horizontally or vertically, and that any desired marking of the material on the bust-liorm can be quickly and conveniently accomplished.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A bust-marker, comprising a base, a standard secured to the base, a T'litting, the vertical member ot' which is mounted to turn on the said standard, a post secured to the in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Marker for Bust-Forms, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a marking device particularly adapted for use in connection with bust-forms, wherein the marking-arm of the device may be swung around said bust-form and adjusted vertically and laterally, thus enabling any portion oi said form to be conveniently and expeditiously reached to mark the garment placed upon it.
A further purpose of the invention is to construct a device of the character described which will be simple, durable, and economic in construction and which can be quickly adjusted for accurate markings and also to so adjust the device that it is applicable to any bust-form and so that the device and the form carried thereby are independently rotatable.
`The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciiication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the ligures.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation ol the improved device and a bust-form in connection with f'hich it is employed, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken practically on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
A represents base or support, which may be of any desired character, and A a bustform of the customary type, which bust-form at its bottom portion is provided with a vertical recess or aperture 10, protected at the bottoni portion of the said bust-form by means of an apertured rail-plate 11.
B represents a body-arm, which is of angular construction, comprising a horizontal member 12 and a vertical member 13. Said vertical member 13 is of sutlicient length to extend up as high as the top of the bust-form or higher,if desired, and said body-arm is adapted to be revolved around the bust-form. The inner end of the horizontal member 12 of the body-arm B is screwed or otherwise secured IOO IIO
vertical member of said T-itting, a bustform rotatably mointed on the post, a bodyarm comprising a lower horizontal member' secured to the said fitting and avertical member, a bearing mounted to slide on the vertical member of the said body-arm, means for securing said bearing in adjusted position, a marking-arm slidably mounted in the said bearing said marking-arm having a longitudinal recess near the end portion, and means provided at said recessed portion for securing a marking material thereto.
2. The combination with a base, a standard secured to the said base, a T iitting the vertical member of whieh is mounted to turn on the said standard, a bust-form, and a post secured to the vertical member of said T-iitting and adapted as a pivot for the bustl form, of a body-arm comprising a lower hori- Zontal member secured to the said iitting, and a vertical member, a bearing mounted to slide on the vertical member of said bodyarm, means for securing the said bearing` in adjusted position, a marking-arm slidably mounted 1n the said bearing, said markingarm having a longitudinally-recessed inner end portion, and means provided at said re-v cessed portion for securing a marking material thereto;
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT VATERMAN.
