NECKTIE FORM AND DISPLAY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 15, 19318.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY 0. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Santa Barbara, in thecounty of Santa Barbara and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Necktie Forms and Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a form and display device for neckties.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a device which will display neckties in an attractive and novel manner without requiring that they betied or otherwise become shopworn.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
Theinvention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an enlarged View in elevation illustrating the display device fitted with a necktie.
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation illustrating the display device and indicating in dotted lines the position to be assumed by a necktie placed thereupon.
Fig. 3 is a'perspective view drawn on a reduced scale and illustrating the construction of the front member of the device.
Fig. 4c is a view in perspective illustrating the body member of the device as seen substantially in front elevation.
Fig. 5 is a View in perspective drawn on a slightly enlarged scale of the upper portion of the body member shown in Fig. 4 as viewed from the rear.
The present device is in the form of an easel having a body portion 10 and a front leg portion 11. The body portion is particularly shown in Fig. 4 where it will be seen to be composed of a longitudinally extending leg portion 12 having 'a widened foot 13 at its lower end, and fitted with a display card 14 at its upper end. In the present instance, the display card represents a view in front elevation of a gentlemans linen collar having side portions 15 and 16 which represent'a portion of a shirt bosom. This card is preferably glued to the front face of the upper end of the body portion 10 which is particularly shown in Fig. 5 as having an enlarged square end through which a square opening 17 is formed.
The opening is of suficient width to admit the upper end 18 of the leg 11. As shown in Fig. 3, a lateral slotted opening 19 is formed through this end. Outwardly extending tangs are formed at the upper end of the leg 11 and provided as shoulders which normally rest between the card 14 and the upper glued portion of the leg 12. The lower end of the front leg 11 is formed with a foot 20 similar to the foot 13. A slotted opening 21 is formed through the front leg 11 adjacent the foot thereof to receive the forwardly extending end 22 of an easel brace member 23. This member is struck from the body of the leg 12 forming a part of the body portion 10. As shown in the drawings, the outer end of the brace 23 is en la'rged and has two recesses 24 and 25 at its opposite sides. These recesses are of a width corresponding to the thickness of the leg 11 and when the device is assembled will hold the two leg members in fixed spaced relation to each other. The forward leg mem ber 11 is also formed with a tang 26 which will extend outwardly between the adjacent lower curved edges of the portions 15 and 16 for a purpose which will be hereinafter set forth.
In operation, the tie to be displayed upon the device is folded double, after which the small end ofthe folded neck portion is carried through the slotted opening 19 in the upper end of the front leg member 11. When the tie has been placed in this position upon the leg 11, the twothicknesses of the tie will hang downwardly toconceal the device when assembled. The leg and body portions are then assembled by placing the extension 18 of the front leg between the display card and the upper portion of the rear leg. The body of the device will be seated upon the shoulders of the front leg to forman easel after which the two leg members may be separated and fastened in relation toeach other by the brace 23. When in this position, the folded portion of the tie which was drawn through the slotted opening 19 will hang down'wardly at the rear of the device through the opening 17 in the body portion.
Due to the fact that a knot 0 ening 27 is formed upon the display car as particularly shown in Fig. 1, the tie will present the appearance of having been tied when .in fact it is lying flat and partially concealed by the side portions 15 and 16.
The outwardly extending tang 26 acts to elevate the tie and give a more realistic appearance of a knot.
It will thus be seen that the device here disclosed is decidedly Simple in its construction, may be easily assembled, and will display ties in an effective and realistic manner.
While I have shown the preferred construction of my necktie form and display device as nowknown to me, it will be understood that various changes in the combination, construction and arrangement of parts may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim:
l. A form and display device comprising an easel, a display card supported thereby having a main portion representing a collar in front elevation and two loosely supported side portions representing the bosom of a shirt; said collar and side portions being formed with a knot opening in the rear of which a necktie may be displayed in a manner to appear as though tied around the collar; and an outwardly extending tang adapted to hold the fabric of the tie out beneath the bosom portion of the display card.
2. A form and display device for neckties, comprising a body portion having a leg and a widened foot, a card attached to the upper end of the body and representing a front view of a collar and the upper and adjacent portions of a shirt bosom; there being a square opening through said upper end; a
comprising a rear leg having a widened foot at its lower end and having a square opening through its upper end, a display card attached to the upper end and representing a front view of a collar and shirt bosom, a front leg having a widened foot corresponding tothe foot on the rear leg and having an upper end inserted through the square opening and having a horizontal slotted opening registering with the square opening and having laterally extending tangs below the slotted opening behind the display card, and a tang extending forwardly below the first-mentioned tangs; anda brace connecting the two legs.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
HARRY C. SMITH.
