Description

F. SIGN.
WEAPON.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 13, 1911.
Patented Jan. 8, 1918.
wuqwdfo'c Fred FRED SIGN, OF WESTBORO, WISCONSIN.
WEAPON.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED SIGN, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, resident of lVestboro, county of Taylor, and State of VVis consin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Weapons, of which the following is a specification.
. This invention relates to improvements in weapons for defense, and offense, and has as its principal object the provision of means whereby a pistol may be converted so as to be used as a sword.
A further object is to provide such devices in forms which may be readily secured to an ordinary pistol so that either weapon may be used without conflicting with the other.
by the novel design, construction and com- These and other like objects are attained of the sword hilt as applied to the pistol,
and
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The drawings represent a relatively thin pistol oft-he repeating type in which the cartridges are contained within thehilt or handle 10, the same being projected up by a spring in the ordinary manner to the up- I per or barrel portion 11 and fired by the lock mechanism 12, the pistol being representative of ordinary well-known types as now constructed.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J antS, 1918.
Application filed April 13, 1917. Serial No. 161,757.
ttached to one side of the pistol is a sword hilt 14L adapted to be grasped by the hand, the fingers of which pass into the opening 15 and are protected by the guard 16 so that a secure grip may be attained, the hand being measurably protected by the guard.
Extendin outwardly and in front of the hilt, which 15 secured by means of screws or rivets 17 to the pistol side is a blade 18, such as a rapier, saber or sword, and which is so firmly held in connection with the side of the pistol that the two are used as one and without conflicting, the blade in no Wise interfering with the discharge of the pistol, and the pistol not interfering with the use of the blade when in close proximity with an adversary.
From the foregoing, it will be readily seen that a weapon of the class described has been disclosed which is capable of being used in warfare or otherwise, in an efiicient manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a pistol having a relatively flat sided barrehof a blade having a hilt rigidly secured alongside said barrel, an extension formed with said hilt, said extension being disposed at a right angle to said blade and having an openlng receptive of the operators hand, and a guard formed so as to inclose the opening.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
FRED SIGN.
