Be 1t known that I, FRANK STULLER, a
citizen of Jugo-Slavia, residing at Rives-- ville, in the county of Marion and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sword-Hilt'Pistols, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to weapons in which a sword and pistol are combined.
The primary object is to provide an automatic pistol with a shield between the barrel and grip thereof and with a socket whereby to receive the blade of a sword, means being provided for securing said blade in the socket, the particular and peculiar construction of the guard permitting the sword to be wielded and the pistol to be fired as occasion requires. I
A'further object is the production of an article of this character which shall be light in weight, simple in construction, and inexpensive to manufacture.
The foregoing, and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and operative arrangement of parts, such as is illustrated by the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating an automatic pistol constructed in accord ance with this invention and having a sword blade attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is a similar view but lookingtoward the opposite side ofthe weapon.
Fig. 3 is an end view. I Fig. 4: is a longitudinal sectional view through the socket which is integrally formed on the pistol, and illustrating the spring actuated means for holding the sword blade therein, parts of the latter being in section.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view approximately on the line 55 of Fig. 4E.
The pistol 1 illustrated by the drawings may be of any well known automatic construction, and as the interior arrangement thereof, as well as the mechanism for exploding a cartridge and ejectmgthe same .for such explosion as well as the means for feeding the cartridges from the mecha-' nism into the barrel, do not form the-sub-.
ject matter of this invention, a detail'description thereof will not beattempted.

Specification of Letters 1 I ra13 .ate1- Jul 12'," 1921.. Application filed October 11,1920. se a1m41 9e v o F I V 'On-"the grip or handle pistol 1,
-atthe outer or lower corner thereof there is 4:. The straight arm 5 of the guard is integrally formed with the extension 6 for the guard 7 for the trigger 8. The guard prov des a means whereby the pistol cannot be accidentally removedfrom the hand of the user. e i t 'On one side of the barrel of the pistolv .there is formed an outwardly extending angularly arranged" socket 9. The socket has its side walls provided with openings 10 through which are passed lugs 11 formed adjacent the outer ends of flat springs 12. The
l3-to-the sides of the. socket, and the outeror free ends of the springs are rounded upon themselves to provide finger grips 14; The blade of a sword is-indicatedby the numeral 15. The blade has its inner edge flattened in the usual manner andis of a formedthe rounded portion 3' of the guard 7 inner ends of these springs are secured, asat size to be snugly received in and contact with the walls of the socket. The blade is provided with notches 16 which, when the blade is 'fully insertedin-the socket areiin alinement with the openings that receive the I lugs 11, and the springs "12 will automati cally force the lugs into engagement with thesaid notches, thereby effectively, holding the blade on the pistol.
noted that the socket being arranged at one. side of the pistol does not interfere with the sighting of the weapon. v The guard, as previously stated prevents the accidental removal of the weaponfrom the hand of the soldier, so" that the blade can be effectively By reference to the drawings," it will be I grip and barrel thereof, a socket on one side v of the pistol projecting beyond thebarrel and designed to receive therein the blade of tween the outer and lower corner of its grip and its barrel, an outwardly projecting up wardly disposed angularly arranged socket upon the barrel of the pistol, spring influenced lugs entering the sides of the socket,
10 and the springs for said lugs having their the end of a sword blade which is formed with notches to b'eengaged by'the spring pressed lugs.
1 I In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
