of which the following is a specification? i This invention relates to improvements in means for securing hats, and has as its special object the provision of means whereby a pair of opposed pins are engaged with the hat in such manner as to prevent loss, a further object is to so mount, and connect the pins that they may be operated in unison.

These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially through the center line of a hat, and indicating the application of the invention.

Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same, the parts being shown in another position.

Fig. 3 is another vertical sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4 is another vertical sectional view showing a modification of fastening means to that disclosed in Fig. 1.

Throughout the several views, the numeral 10 applies to the brim of the hat or cap with which is formed the crown 11, surmounted by the crown plate 12.

A pair of pins, respectively 1 1 and 15, enter the crown 11 of the hat at a suitable distance from the rim 10, the pins having sharp tapering points and extending heads 16 and 17, which may be of any shape or configuration desired.

Formed with the pin 14 is an eye 18, in which is engaged a cord 20, the same passing over a small pulley 21, secured to the inner side of the crown. closely adjacent to the opening through which the pin passes, a similar pulley 22 being fastened within the crown directly above the pulley 21, and

From the foregoing, it will be understood that if the pin ll be pressed inwardly, by reason of the arrangement of the cord, the oppositely disposed pin 15 will also be forced inwardly, and conversely, if the pin 15 be withdrawn, similarly the pin 14 will be pulled outward by the cord 20, thus providing an effective and quickly operated means for securing or detaching a hat from the head of a wearer.

In the adaptation shown in Figs. 4 and 5, similar pins and cords are used, but in place of the pulleys 21, 22, 24, and 25 being arranged inside the crown, they are secured upon its exterior.

In Figs. 6 and 7 is shown a modified means in which bushings 30 are secured upon opposite sides of the hat, adapted to receive the pins 14 and 15, the bushings having a radial slot 31 formed outwardly through its center opening and through which the corresponding key 32, secured to the shank of the pin, may be passed when the pins are secured.

Obviously, by rotating the pins, the keys 32 make contact with the interior of the bushings 30, preventing it from being withdrawn until the key is alined with the slot.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a hat securing device, the combination with a hat having a crown, and a pair of pins oppositely positioned therein of a flexible connecting element engaged with said pins whereby when one of said pins is pressed inwardly the other is caused to move toward it and upon withdrawing the other pin the first named pin is caused to move outward.

2. In a hat securing device, the combination with a hat having a crown, a pair of pins oppositely engaged in said crown, connection between said pins whereby they are moved simultaneously, bushings set in said crown through which said pins pass, an means combined with said pins adapted to retain the same in an adjusted position oppositely ositioned pins enterable therein,"
