" NITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
CHARLES H. \VHITE, OF DANBURY, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND GEORGE A. SHEPARD, OF BETHEL, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLOCKS FOR FORMING HAT-BRIMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,597, dated July 2, 1878; application filed May 29, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. WHITE, of Danbury, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sectional-Flange Hat-Brim Forms, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a top view of my improved hatbrim form. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section of the same, taken through the line as m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved form for use in giving shape to the brims of hats when the side parts of the said brims are turned or rolled, to enable the hats to be removed from the form without bending or warping their brims or changing their shape, so that the hats will set or stitt'en with their brims in the exact shape given them by the form, and which at the same time shall be simple in construction and convenient in use.
The invention consists in a hat-brim form or flange made with a sectional detachable flange-section, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the body of the form, which is made of such a shape and size as to give the required shapeto the hat-brim. The flangesection B of the form A upon each side is made in one or more parts or sections, which are detachable, and are guided into and secured in place by dowel-pins, tongues and grooves, or other suitable means.
\Vith this construction, when the proper shape has been given to the hat-brim, the hat is lifted ofl' the form, taking the flan ge-sections B with it, which flan ge-sections drop out when they have been raised from the form A, leaving the brim of the hat in the exact shape given to itby the form. The sectional flange B enables a hat to be removed from the form without having its brim bent or changed in the least from the shape given to it by the said form.
The flange or form maybe constructed of wood, metal, hard rubber, or other suitable material.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A hat-brim form, A, made with a sectional detachable flange, B, substantially as herein shown and described.
, CHARLES HENRY XVHITE.
