G. H. REID.
DRUM 0R ROLL FOR HAT SIZING MACHINES.
Patented June 29, 1886i.l
PATENT FFICE CHARLES H. REID, OF DANBURY, CONNECTICUT.
DRUM OR ROLL FOR HAT-SIZING MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part oi Letters Patent No, 344,680, dated June 29, .1886.
Application led August 14, 1885. Serial No. 174.391. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. REID, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danbury, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drums or Rolls for Hat-Sizing Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to cert-ain novel and useful improvements in the construction of rolls or drums for hat-sizing machines, and has for its object to provide an economical device of this description which shall be exceedingly light and especially adapted for the sizing surfaces, and which may be readily taken to piecesand lengthened or shortened, if desired; and with these ends in view my invention consists in certain details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter fully described, and then specifically designated by the claims. l
In orderthat those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may more fully understand the construction and operation of my improvement, I will proceed to describe the vsame in detail, referring by letter to the acagainst the shaft, and thereby establish a rigid connection between the shaft and heads.
If it is desired to alter the length of the drum, the sides are merely shortened or lengthened, as the case may require, and secured in position, as above described.
The form or shape of the drum is immaterial, and I do not Wish to be confined in thi respect. l
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. AS a new article of manufacture, a drum or roll for hatsizing machines, consisting of two heads having pockets arranged peripherically within the interior of said heads, and sides detachably secured to the heads within opposite pockets, substantially as set forth.
2. The heads A, having pockets B in the inner peripherieal face thereof, in eombination with the sides C, extending within opposite pockets in said heads, the shaft D, passed through hubs formed with the heads, and setscrews F, adapted to be driven through the hubs and against the shaft, whereby the drum is rinly secured to said shaft, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a drum or roll for hat-sizers, the coinbination, with the heads provided with interior pockets and exterior hubs, of the sides extending within opposite pockets in theheads, and setscrews passed through the hubs, (or any suitable means of fastening) whereby the drum is rigidly secured to a central shaft, substantiall y as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHAS. H. REID.
