HAT-SIZING MACHINE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 305,623, dated September 231, 1884.

To all whom, t may concern.'

Be it known that I, J onN G. MEEKER, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Danbury, in the countyof Fairfield and State' of Conneeticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Sizing Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to certain' novel and useful improvements in hat-sizing machines, and has for its object to improve on the construction shown and described in Letters Patent No. 215,144, granted to me May 6, 1879; and with these ends'in view my invention consists in the details of construction andthe combination of elements hereinafter fully described, and then specifically designated by the claim. l

ln order that those skilled Vin the art to which my invention appertains may more fully understand its construction and operation, I Will proceed to describe the same, referring by letter to the accompanying drawings. forming a part of this specifica-tion, in Which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a machine constructed in accordance with my improve-` ment, and Fig. 2 a detail perspective of one of the rolls provided with my improvement.

Similar letters denote like parts in both iigures of the drawings.

I will not enter into any description of the arrangement of the rolls and the operation of the same, as this is not new and is the same as in any ordinary machine of a similar description, and, moreover, forms no part of my present invention.

adjustable apron anda revolving roll are used and the sizing-surfaces are made of rope or any other yielding material; but owing to the fact that the apron is stationary the' actual yielding of the said surfaces is so slightthat it does not produce the results accomplished by my present construction.

I do not Wish to be conned to any particular number -of rolls, as this is immaterial, the

gist of my invention resting in the sizing-surfaces themselves.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a hat-sizing machine having all the Sizing-surfaces carried by rolls adapted to revolve, the sizing-surfaces made of a flexible and yielding material and attached to the faces of said rolls, substantially as set forth.
