OVERALLS AND SUSPENDERS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it 'known thatI, OSCAR A. BERMAN,-a citizen of the United States, "residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls and Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to suspenders and more particularly to a suspe'ndenconnection for overalls, and it has for its primai'y'aim to provide detachable elastic connection insertible in the suspenders instead of being fixedly inserted in the shoulder straps thereof, so that when the overalls are Washed the elastic connection may be removed to save the resilient properties thereof, or when the elastic connection has become useless through losing its elasticity, said connection may be detached and a new length inserted therefor, thus, avoiding the discarding of the remainder of the overalls which might be in very good condition. y

The invention has for its secondary aim to provide a complementary or reciprocal accommodating action of its parts so as to automatically adjust itself to all body movements or positions with the least possible tendency to restrain the same thereby conducing to the comfort of the wearer and the life of the garment,

The invention further resides in the features of construction hereinafter described in detail, succinctly defined in the appended claims, relerence being made to the accompanying drawing wherein Figure l is a view illustrating the present invention in use;

Referring to corresponding parts by like characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates the body of a pair of overalls having a rear strap 2 and shoulder suspension strap 3 both of which may have their free ends fixed to the overall body and each comprising a single length of denim or like material.

being held in position by a seam, rivet, or other means if no accommodating movement is desired, or maybe left open, or seam or rivetremoved. This permits free sliding movement of the strap on the bar for the accommodation of the shoulder and body movements of the wearer, as depicted in Fig. 1 wherein the right shoulder is slightly raised and brought forward and the connection in the susp'ender swung out of a true vertical position.

Each clasp is also formed with a buttonengaging loop 6 having shoulders 7 adapted to engage the shank of a button 8 and hold the two closely together and against unauthorized disengagement.

The elastic connection comprises a short length of elastic fabric 9 having a button 8 secured adjacent each end with which buttons detachably engage the resilient loops or springs of the clasps 4. The latter are free to swing about the button shanks and since the suspender straps are permitted to slide across the bars 5 a universal connection is afforded at each end of the elastic connection or insert 9.

It is well known that the elastic connection is the first part of an overall to wear out, in fact, the elastic becomes useless long before the remainder of the garment, which usually necessitates the discarding of the garment and the purchasing of an entirely new one if the wearer desires elasticity in the back thereof. Much expense is incurred, therefore, and to overcome this disadvantage, the present invention is designed for should the elastic connection wear out, a new length with buttons attached ready for insertion in the loops may be purchased for two or more cents and substituted for the worn part. Further, the buttons may be made detachable from the elastic fabric so that these may be placed on new elastic, thus still further reducing the cost of renewing the worn out parts. \Vhen the garment is washed, the connection may readily be removed thus permitting the washing of the suspenders at the same time, without the necessity of immersing the elastic in the washing solution which would impair or destroy it, and should the garment fade or change color the suspender straps will also fade or change color to a like degree.

One of the buttons 8 may be transposed to the rear strap and the loop secured to the elastic connection whereby, should the latter become broken or undes ii'ablegthe in the modified form in Fig. 4L.

What is claimed is: 1. An overall suspender comprising a consisting of a base crossbar and a-loop, a detachable elastlc connection, a button on each end'oi": the connection detachably engageable'with the loops of the clasps, and Suspender straps passing about the cross bars of the Clasps, said loops springing over the button shanks and closely engaging'the same.
