To all whom it may concern? Be it known that 1, JO N PRICE, a citizen of'the United States,*residing at Tyler, in
yint'erfittecl to render the'same compact," so
the county of Smith and State of Texas, have invented a new andluseful Door-Fastion. I it The invention relates to a door locking "tenor, of whichthe followingis' aspecifica device, and more particularly to the class of portable door fasteners.
The primary objectof the invention is the provision of a fastener of'this'ch'aracter, which when not in use w1ll have ts parts that it may be conveniently carried in the pocket and, on the application thereof, will to assure the easy application and securing of a door closed with despatch; possessing minimum parts, which are readily interfittedto render it portable, and for the fastening of the door when the occasion requires; thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, strong, durable and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the claw or jaw member, showing the locking key in sectional elevation.
' Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fastener in position to be carried in the pocket.
Fig. 4 isa sectional view on the line 44 of Fig. 3, looking in the direction of the arrow.
Similar reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several figures.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the portable fastener comprises only two seee t 'ni 'e nti l ete f assrenon or, olvn-narirt ro tttivt soniionn; or

therefor. -The member Ais formed from a flat plate, preferably meta'h 'cut -or[shaped to provide 'iai n'arrowshank 5 and a'wide head 6, which has extendingat'right angles from one" side thereof pluralit of pointed end edgelof*s'aidj head, affording a claw orjaw for'a purpose presently described; f The shank or stem 5 has bent orformed, at its" longer opposite side edgesyoutwardly and inwardly bent flanges 8, which provide guide and retaining cleats for a locking key hereinafter fully described.
The locking key comprisesa straight bar 9 of the required length, width'and thick- M ness and is formed in its opposite longer side edges with V-shaped grooves or channels 10 for receiving the cleats 8 when the key B is fitted upon the member A in parallel relation thereto by the sliding of the bar teeth 7', whifcliare arrangedin a -row at the v 9 longitudinally of the member A between the flanges '8 in thedirection of the teeth 7 for assumingthe position shown-in Fig. 3 of the drawings, soqthat the fastener has its sections interfitted for the convenient A carriage'thereof in a pocket when the fastener is not in use, as the sections of the fastener in such position. are'compact to occupy the least possible space.
The bar 9 constituting the locking keyB 7 of the fastener, whendisengaged from the flanges 8 on the member A, is adapted to fit in the head 6 of said member, which head is provided medially thereof, at the required distance from the teeth 7 with a slot or opening 11 correspondingly shaped tothe cross sectional contour of the bar'9 for slidably receiving the same, so that the key B may be positioned at right angles to the member A when the fastener is assembled and applied for securing a-door closed.
In the application of'the fastener, the key B is'separatedfrom the member A, it being assumed that the door 0 is open, so
that the head 6 0f the member A can be inserted in the rabbet in the casing D for the door, as shown inFig. 1 of the drawings, ,and when the door is moved to closed position, it rides upon themember A, forcing the teeth 7 into the casing D and when the door has been completely closed, the key B is inserted through the'head 6.0ftl1e member A transversely thereof to lie crosswise of the door C and easing D at the innersides The fastener affords a convenient securing device for doors to prevent the samefroin being opened from without, and the applicationpf the fastener is notrestricted to use witlrdoors, but may-be applied to transoms or other closures. V 1 s It is, of course, understood that changes, ariations a modifica ion inlay vb made in the fastener, snoh ascome properly Within the scope of; the tappended claim, Without departing, from the-spirit of the invention or; sacrificing any; of its; advantages.
