To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, YVILLIAMI rlnsrm Don amen, of the city of Hamilton, in the county of Wentworth, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful linprovements in Sample-Strip-Holding Dcvices for Cloth-Rolls and the like, of which the following is the specification.

My invention relates to improvements in sample strip holding devices for cloth rolls and the like and the object of the invention is to devise a sample holder for a long strip of sample material cut clear across the width of the goods by which the sample may be easily and quickly inserted in the roll and held between the cloth board and the goods thereon so that the strip may be drawn out and a portion cut off therefrom from time to time as required and it consists essentially of a sample strip supporting structure designed to he slipped longitudinally into the cloth roll and having a cross slot in proximity to its inner end and through which the strip of material when doubled crosswise is passed and extended lngitudinally against one face of the holder, the free ends lying one against the opposite face of the support, one end protruding heyond the end of the cloth board and the other against the double strip as hereinafter more particularly explained by the following specification.

The sample strip 9 folded intermediately of its length as at 10, the double portion being passed through the slot t and drawn longitudinally of the support toward the outer end thereof as shown in Fig. 3, the free end l0 of the strip being passed longitudinally from the slot l: against the lower face of the holder so as to protrude at 11 from the end of the cloth roll. The opposite free end is passed in the opposite direction and around the end of the holder and longitudinally over the double portion 1.0 as indicated in Fig. 3. ll hen the strip is so placed upon the holder the holder is slipped into the roll over the cloth board, the lower rihs 'l' and 8 resting upon the cloth hoard so as to form an intermediate guideway through which the lower portion 10 of the sample strip may be freely drawn. The outer end of the strip portion 3 of the holder may he provided with upturned lug portions 3" and 3 which might he used merely to indicate the position of the sample holder so the sample strip may be readily located in the piece of goods or on which can he inscrihed respectively the price and width of the goods forming the cloth roll.

From this description it will he seen that l have devised a very simple form of sample holder which may he easily and quickly inserted in position within the cloth roll and which will he adapted to hold a strip of maximum length and from which the strip may be easily and quickly drawn whenever desired to the required length so that a sample of the goods forming the roll may he cut off therefrom.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. fl sample strip support for cloth rolls comprising a supporting structure adapted to he slipped into the cloth roll and having a cross slot forming an end hridge at its inner end through which slot the double in termediate portion of the strip is drawn so as to lie douhled against one face of the support, one free end extending through the slot under and haclr over the bridge so as to lie on. the douhle end, and the other free end of the strip extending forward and lying against the opposite face of the sup port and so as to protrude from the end of the roll.

2. A sample strip for cloth rolls comprising a supporting structure adapted to he slipped into the cloth roll and having a cross 1 till slot at its inner end through Which the double intermediate portion of the strip is drawn so as to lie against one face of the support with one free end of the strip lying against the opposite face of the support and So as to protrude from the end of the roll and edge rib portions extending from each edge of the support from end to end and above the opposite faces to relieve the pressure on the sample strip on both sides from the goods forming the roll.

3. A sample strip support for cloth rolls comprising a supporting structure adapted to he slipped into the cloth roll and having a cross slot at its inner end through which the double intermediate portion of the strip is drawn so as to lie against one face of the support with one free end of the strip lying against the opposite face of the support so as to protrude from the end of the roll, and guiding portions extending from each edge of the upper and lower face of the support.

A sample strip support for cloth rolls comprising a supporting structure to he slipped longitudinally into the roll and to hold a sample strip freely in place within the roll so that such strip may be drawn out longitudinally therefrom when desired, end lugs having an unobstructed space between them and carried on the outer end of the support and means at each side to form. guideways to msure the sample strip being Withdrawn straight from the support.
