. JMPROVEMENT IN HANGING-BASKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,818, dated March 19, 1872.
SPECIFICATION- I, CHARLES C. HIBBERT, of Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Han ging-Baskets, of which the following is a spec ification:
Figure 1 in the drawing is a top view. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section, and Fig. 3 is a part in detail of my improved hanging-basket.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hanging-baskets or stands for flower-pots, 850.; and has for its main objects the constructing of the basketor stand in an economical and convenient manner, so as to allow a pot or vessel of any size to be placed within it, and to be readily taken apart so as to admit of its being compactly and conveniently packed for transportation; also, to permit any one portion of the frame to be repaired, in case of injury, without interference or detriment to the other portions. The invention consists in the combination, as hereinafter described, of an upper stem, frame pieces, side pieces, a shelf, brackets, and a lower stem. l l
In the drawing, a a represent a stem, to which are affixed, by screws or other readilyadjnsted means, the upper portion of curved frame pieces 11 b I) b b b, the lower portion of each one of which is rabbeted so as to fit over the top and into a slot formed in the edge at each angle, or in the periphery, of a hexagonal or other-shaped shelf or seat, at d d, which sus-' tains a vessel, 0, containing flowers, &c. The shelf or seat at d d is supported or rests on a series of brackets, f f f f f f, each formed with a rabbet, or scarfed in any suitable manner to which is held together by the pressure of the brackets ff, &c., against each other. Affixed to shelf at d, by screws or other readily-adjusted means, are side pieces h h h h h h, which fit in and extend partly up between the frame pieces I) b, 850.
By the above arrangement it will readily be seen that by making the basket or stand in separate pieces, fitted and screwed or otherwise readily adjusted one to the other, one or more parts may be easily detached from the others for the admission of any sized pot or vessel; or the whole may be taken apart with out injury to the parts and conveniently packed for transportation; or in case one part is injured, it may be easily replaced without interfering with or damage to the other parts.
Having thus fully described my improvements, what I claim as my invention, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination of the upper stem a, frame pieces 1), side pieces h, shelf 01, brackets f, and lower stem g, all arranged as specified.
In testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two sub- CARROLL D. WRIGHT, SAML. M. BARTON.
