Description
difttrd 't-atea 1 @strat @Wim Letters Patent No. 93,626, dated August 10, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-RACK AND Astrainer.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. KIMBALL, of Peterborough, i'n-the` county ot' Hillsborough, and State of New Hampshire, have invented new and useful Improvemeuts iu a Combination Clothes-Rack and Light- Stand; and I do hereby declare that the following is a fulland exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
To. enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 represents'aplan of my improved clothesrack and light-stand combined.
Figure 2 represents aside elevation of -the same.
Figure 3 represents a vertical section of the same.
' Similar letters in the different figures indicatecorre-` sponding parts. A A In the construction of Iny improved lcombination clothes-rack and light-stand- V a represents Athe post or standard, which is formed ofthe desired size, shapeand length, the bottom of which fitting in a socket formed in the stand b, to which are pivoted the-feet or legs c c c, which, when iu use., keep the same in their required position; the other end 0f this post onstandard a being provided with a sl1oulder,ouwl1ich the head d rests and revolves when in use. f
This head d is constructed ofthe required size and shape, andfurnished on its sides with the required number of round holes e e, which correspond in lsize with the ends ofthe arms or bars fff.
'lhese arms or bars f ff are -provided with links g g,
Vwhich 4are firmly secured to the same the required distance from their ends, they being hinged to the head d by means of the staples h. la., which, when not in use, prevent the same from dropping from the head d.
- .t represents' the light-stand top, its under side being provided wit-h a socket, into which passes the end of the post or standard a, thus allowing the top of-the stand 1'. to rest on .the head (l, which gives the same a firmer support than it would votherwise get.
My improved combination clothes-rack and lightstand heilig thus constructedis then ready for use.
The user is enabled to hang cloth or clothes, either wet or dry, ou the ar'ms or bars f f f, which, when properly dried' or aired, can be conveniently folded .and put on the table t', and there remain until required to be removed. The arms or bars f j' f being withdrawn from their bearings or holes c e, which, by aid of the staples h h. and links g g, allowing them to hang loosely around the post or, standard a, it being then used as a common light-stand, taking up but a little space, and'being light and portable, can be removed easily to any place required.
If occasion requires the device to be used separately as a clothes-rack, the table-top i can be easily and quickly removed andA laid away, ready to be used when required.
.IVhen the device is not required to be used, or when to be transported vfrom place to place, its several parts being so constructed that it can be taken apart easily, quickly, and readily, folded and packed'iua trunk or small box, and carried with but littlehindrance to the user, not being liable to damage or breaking of any of its parts.
Thus, it will be seen, I am enabled to furnish a clothes-rack and light-stand combined, for nearly the same expense as one separate article, being simple, durable, ornamental, compact, and useful.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The construction and arrangement of the stand l1, with pivoted legs c c, the revolving head d, with holes c e therein, the arms ff, with links g g and staples h h, and the removable top t, substantially as and for the purposes herein specified.
Witnesses: y WILLIAM B. KIMBALL.
ALBERT S. Scorri', g ELIJAH M. Tunes.
