IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-DRIERS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and malnng part of the same.

To all whomit may concern Be it known that I, HORACE SWAN, ot Woodstock, in the county of Windsor and State of Vermont, have invented a new and improved Portable Olo'thes-Drier; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being `had to the.

A light frame, composed of the pair of side-slats b b and the series of connecting-rods t' t' t t', is hinged to the upper portion of the uprights c a by means of the extension ot' the ends of its frame-rod fi' into apertures in thc said uprights; a-nd a similar frame, composed of the side slats c c and the series of connecting-rodsjjj, is hinged to the lower portions of the nprights a c by means of the extension of the ends of its frame-rod j into apertures in the said uprights, all as represented in the. accompanying drawing. p

lt will, therefore, he perceived that the aforesaid frames, l) b t' -i'fi' and c c j j j', can be readily tlnown into lhe positions represented in 2, 3, and 4 of the accompanying drawing.

When placed in the positions shown by figs. 2 and 4 the said frames will he self-supporting, and when placed in the position shown byifig. 3 they will be held in said position by the hooks it h., as-representedin said drawing. l

When sheetskor other articles of bed-covering, are to be dried upon my said improvedclothcs-drier, the

respective drying-frames b l) t t t and c cjy'j should be arranged in the position shown by iig. 2; and when a large number of ordinary-sized clothing are to he dried upon said drier, the respective adj ustuble drying-frames thereof should be put Vinto the positions represented by figs. 3 and d.

The apertures in the nprights c a., which receive thcextended end s of the joint-rods t" ofthe frame b b t' i fi', are so located that, when the said frame is folded inward, it fits closely against the outer surface ot the uprights (l d, and the apertures in the nprights c a, whichreceive the extended ends of the joint-rod j', of the drying-frame c cjjj, are solocated as to enable said frame to be folded inward compactly over and upon the drying-frame b b'i 'i t', all as represented in iig. 1 ofthe drawing.

rlhc hooks h h. may be so shaped and located that they will serve the purpose of holding the respective drying-frames in thc position shown in lig. 3, and also of holding said frames in the compactly-t'olded position shown byfig. 1.

My improved portable clothes-drier may be hung l upon suitable supports to one of the walls of a kitche'n,.or may be suspended to hooks descending from' the ceiling,'as may best snit the views or the convenience of the user. l
