SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 457,800, dated August 18, 1891, Application filed February 5, 1891. Serial No. 380,370- (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. STANDISH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Woodstock, in the county of Windsor and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Clothes-Rack, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in clothes-driers, and more especially to an improvement upon my patent, No. 419,896, granted January 21, 1890.

The objects of my present invention are to increase the capacity of the drier without increasing the space occupied by the same when opened and to obviate the employment of the supporting-ropes and locking devices illustrated in said patent and substitute therefor a simpler, cheaper, and more convenient means.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of a clothes-drier constructed in accordance with my invention, the same be ing open ready for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section, the drier being closed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a spring-catch.

Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures of the drawings.

1 designates the wall, and 2 the floor, of a room, and to the latter is hinged, as at 3, near the wall, the main drier-frame 4. The drier-frame 4 has hinged to the front surfaces of its side bars, as at 5, the upper ends of the side bars of a short supplemental frame 6, the lower ends of the side bars of which rest upon the floor. To the front faces of the side bars of the frame 6, and slightly above the lower ends thereof, there are hinged, as at 7, the lower ends of a pair of side bars of a second supplemental drying-frame 8. A headed pin 9 extends from one of the side bars of the frame 8, andto the same is connected one end of a limiting rope or chain 10, the opposite end of which is passed loosely through an eye 11, projecting from one of the side bars of a supplemental frame 6. The upper end of the frame 16 has one of its sides provided with a hook. 17, which is pivoted to the side bar by means of a screw or bolt 18 and has its free hook end passed through an eye 19, secured to the wall, and in said eye the shank of the hook loosely rides. By opening the frame and swinging the upper end of the main frame away from the wall the hook rides through the eye until its movement is arrested by the stop, which, it will be understood, is the hook end thereof, so that the movement of the main frame and its inclination is limited, the rear supplemental frame combining with the hook to hold a support for holding the main frame in an inclined position, and at the same time increasing the capacity of the drier as a whole and obviating the employment of the necessary rope illustrated in my former patent.

20 designates a spring-clasp mounted loosely on the upper rung of the rear supplemental drying-frame, the free end of said clasp being designed to be sprung over the corresponding rung of the main frame, and thus maintain the main frame locked against the rear supplemental frame and out of position.

In the above manner it will be apparent that the drier may be regulated as to its capacity by opening the several "frames and may be entirely folded fiat against the wall when not in use, the means devised for limiting the separation and determining the inclination of the main frame and for locking said frames in position being both cheap and simple and easily operated.

Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. The combinatiomwithan eye secured to a wall, of a main drier-frame hinged to the floor below the eye, a supplemental rear drierframe hinged at its lower end to the rear side of the main frame,a hook pivoted to the side IOE to .the side bar of the supplemental frame and mounted loosely in the eye,substantially as specified.
