APPLICATION FILED MARZI I9I7- 1,245,423. Patented Nov; 6, 1917.
STATES PATENT OFFICE.

To all whom it may concern:-
Be it known that I, Josmn B. Bnmon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grawn', in the county of Grand Travers and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Clasp for Spectacle-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
The device form' the subject matter of this application is a asp for a spectacle case, and the invention aims to provide novel means whereby the lid of the case may be held closed, and whereby the case may be supported on a garment, the garment-engag-mg element constituting means whereby the lever may be tilted to permit an opening of the case.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view I which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the pnecise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed canbe made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Figure 1 shows 1n front elevation, a spectacle case embodying the invention; I
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the spectacle case;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation wherein parts are broken away;
Fig. 4 is across section on the line is-4 of Fi 3; and
ig. 5' is a fragmental section showing a modified form of the invention.
In carrying out the present invention there is provided a spectacle case which may be shaped as desired. The case comprises as cooperating parts, a body 1 and a lid 2 hinged 'at 3 to the body, In one of. said ooo ting elements, preferably the bod 1, 21 is an exteriorpivot element 4 on w 'ch fa lever 5 is mounted, intermedilate its enlrllsl, or swinging movement in a ane para e tothebottomofthebodyl of one end, the lever 5 is provided with a ring hook 6, the bill of which overhanfi'i the 11d 2 to hold the lid closed. The b I of the hook terminates in an enlargement 7 adapted to be received in a seat 8 in the outer face of the lid 2, to hold the lever onasr roa' mariners-cum.

the case. At
against swinging movement. The other-end of the lever 5 terminates in a hook 9,- the lower end of which is constructed as shown at 19, so that the hook 9 may be engaged readily with the upper end of a pocket, with a belt or the like, to support the case. The hooks 6 and 9 nroject in opposite directions, and the finger of the operator may be placed against the book 9 to swing the lever 5 on t e pivot element 4 thereby to'disen ge the bill of the hook 6 from the lid 2. 1%; pivot element 4 is located above the center of mass of the spectacle case, and the portion of the lever whlch carries the hook 9 is shorter than the portion of the lever which carries the hook 6. Owing to the location of the pivot element 4' with ect to the ends of the case, as. above des c r i ed, theweight of the case has no tendency-to cause the case to swing on the pivot element. 4 and disengage the book 6 from the 1id'2 when the device issupported on a belt or on the edge of a,
pocket by means of the'hook 9.
In Fig. 5 of-the drawin' the body of the spectacle case is denoted y the numeral 1 and the lever is shownat 5", the numeral 4 denoting the rivet which constitutes a fulcrum for the lever. in this form of the invention, the rivet 4 is provided with a spacing shoulder 20, which, being interposed between the lever 5 and thebody 1', revents the lever from chafing or' wearing t e body when the lever is swung.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is I 1. A pocket case comprising as cooperating parts, a body and a lid hinged to the body; and a lever fulcrumed on one of said coiiperating parts for swinging movement m, a plane parallel to the bottom of the case, r
the lever being provided at one end with a hook the bill of which overlaps the other of saidcooperating parts to hold the 11d closed,
the leverbeing adapted to swing parallel ends on one of said cooperating parts for swinging movement in a plane arallel to the bottom of the case the lever mg provided at one end with ahook the blll of which3%*ilii"p"th other of said ofl'set cooperating parts to hold the lid closed,- the lever being adabted to swing parallel to the bottom of the ease to displace the bill of the 5 book from that cooperating element where vith the bill en es, the other end of the kiwi "5| with a pocket-engaging Mt supporting 00k constituting means where-- by digital Qressure may be appliegi to the 10 lfl itfi iefiiji owl fihwzfifl vand to dlsengage the bill of the book from that eoa emilig element wherewith the bill enacts.
In testimon that I claim the foregoing as my own; I ave hereto aflixed my signature 1n the presence of two witnesses;
