WILLIAM ERNEST GRAY, OF BOISE, IDAHO.
COPY-HOLDING- DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Orginal application :tiled September 13, 1913, Serial No. 789,650. Divided and this application filed August 15, 1915. Serial No. 114,972.
To all whom t may concern:
Be, it lrnown that l, WILLIAM ERNEST GRAY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Boise, in the county of Ada and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Copy-lolding Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates generally to copy holder devices, and more particularly to a copy holder attachment for typewriters ot' the nature described and claimed in my Patent 1,209,429, granted Dec. 19, 1916, of which the present application is a division.
The object oi' my present invention is to provide certain connections whereby the pivot point of the indicating bar may be adjusted toward and away from the copy holder plate, thus providing for the reception of more or less bulky copy between the indicating bar and the copy holder plate.
This improved connection illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part or' the speciicaticn, and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a portion of the copy holder plate with my present improvement mounted thereon, and
Fig. 2 is a verticalsection taken on an enlarged scale, through the parts shown in Fig. 1.
Referring now to these gures, the indicator mechanism which is adjustable verti cally upon one side edge of the copy holder plate 10, consists of a face plate 11 bent substantially into U-form and provided at its top and bottom with leaves 12 and 13 which in the operative position extend forwardly i and angularly from the copy plate 10, and
which have vertically alined slots 14 eX- tending through which is a pivot pin 15.
The pivot pin 15 as seen by reference to Fig. 2 is provided at its upper end and abovey the leaf 12 with a'milled head 16 and is threaded at its lower end below the leaf 13 and as seen at 17, for the reception of a milled nut 18.
rllhe hinge plate 19, as seen in Fig. 1, is provided as in my patent above referred to with an elongated laterally projecting indicator arm 20, which extends across the face of the copy plate 10, and is also in accordance with my'present improvement pro* vided at its top and bottom with leaves 21 and 22, abutting the inner faces or' the leaves 12 and 13 and provided with openings receiving the upper and lower portions oi the pivot pin 15.
rlhus with the hinge plate 19 constructed as described and with the part shown in Fig. 1, loosening oi the nut 18 permits ci' adjustment of the pivot pin within the slot 14 of the leaves and 13, carrying with it the hinge plate 19, so as to adjust the latter with its indicator bar toward and away from the adjacent face of the copy plate 10, and providing, in this way, for the reception of more or less bulky copy between the indicator bar and the tace oi' the copy plate.
As in my patent above referred to, the indicator mechanism generally indicated at 23 to which the plate 11 before referred to is attached by fastening members 24 is adjusted up and down on the copy holder plate 10 by the typewriter carried device, through a iexible connection as indicated at 25 and indicator bar 20, thus movable up and down upon the tace of the copyplate 1() carries a letter indicating member 26 slidable therealong also under actuation of typewriter carried parts through a'flenible connection as seen at 27, under control of a tension device 28at the outer end of the indicator arm 20, such typewriter carried parts forming no -part of my improvements and illustration thereof being for this reason omitted.
.l claim:
In a. copy holder attachment of the character described, a copy holder plate and an indicator mechanism including an indicator bar extending across the face of said copy holder plate and having angularly bent leaves at one end thereof outstanding forwardly from said plate and provided with apertures, a face plate at the same side or". the copy holder plate, provided with spaced eX- tending leaves projecting in the saine direction and overlapping the said leaves of the indicator bar and provided with slots therein, and a clamping pivot bolt extendthrough the slots of the said face plate leaves and through the said apertures oi' the indicator bar leaves whereby to secure the said indicator bar in adjustably spaced relation in respect to the copy holder plate.
VILLIAM ERNEST GRAY.
