To all 'whom t may concerm 'l Be it known that I, MORRIS HEYMANN, a
i subject ofthe Czar of Russia, residing at Annapolis, in the county of Anne Arundel, State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Extension-Table; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such as ,will enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful extension table, and particularly one lin which the extension leaf is `carried by the table. One of the objects of the invention'is to provide an extension table consisting of two sections slidably united, and provided with a sectional extension leaf, which, when not in use, is suspended below the sections of the table, and when the two sections are extendeed, the extension leaf may be moved up ,be-l tween the two sections of the tablethereby increasing the size of the table top. y
A furtherobject of the invention is the provision of guide means for the lsectional leaf whereby the sectional extension. leaf may be guided up between the two table sections.
A further object of the invention is to provide vguide means for the two table top sections. l
' In practical elds, the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling with-y in the scope of what is claimed.
The inventionvcomprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, and claimed.
In the drawings:- y y Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the improved extension tableconstructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the vextension table. 1
Fig 3 is a cross sectional view showing the sectional extension leaf out of coperation between the two sections of the table.
Fig. A is a sectional view on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
`Fig 5 is a bottom plan view of the extension leaf.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional view longi` tudinally through the structure shown in Fig. 5. Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 designates a suitable center post or pedestal having the supporting legs 2. Se-

pedesta l.-orpostfby means of screws 3 is a cross piece A, to which,by means o-fscrews 5, parallel strips` o-r bars 6 are secured, which extend transversely of the cross piece 4. Secured to the strips or barsV by means ofthe angle brackets 7, andextending laterally from the outer faces of said strips orbjars are extensions Shaving guide grooves19, as sho-wnin'the drawings.
Patented-oet. as; ieiai A Application led August l, 1916. Serial 11m/117,959.
The :table ltop consists 'of vthe `two sections 10, which may bel any suitable shape or configuration, but which, in thepresent instance, are. semi4circularin pla-n view, and are provided with the usual downwardly extending semi-circular Hanges 11. Carried by theunder facesofthe `table top sections lOand projecting from` the innerl circumf-l ference ofthe flanges 1 1,,are;extensioi1sr12,j
having Eguide ribsv 13,l which engagev the guide grooves 9-of the extensions 8, where.- by through the-,medium of the guidevex-` tensions 8and12, the table top sections 10, are movably supported upon and with relation tothe strips or bars 6,' so that the table top sections may be moved toward i and from eachother. The adjacent edges of the vtable top sections vl() have guide grooves 14. The adjacent faces ofthe strips or `bars Ghave guide grooves 15 `and 16.
The opposing kgrooves l5 are corresponds inglyy shaped, lw-hile the opposing grooves i 16 are correspondingly shaped The corresponding ends of b oth grooves 15 arefpro-I vided withgradual upwardly extending incorresponding ends of the grooves.16 merge into substantially 17 and which semi-circular portions 18 merge into the grooves 14C @opposite where the.; inclined portions 17 merge into said united by the hinges 22. It is to be noted that when the extension leaf isnot in use, the lugs 23, at the opposite'ends of the slats or. strips, are engaging the opposing grooves 15 and 16 of the strips or bars 6, in which l semi circular grooves 184 opposite the inclined portions Vclined portions 17, which merge .into the groovesl 1 4 at one side of the table.Y Thecase the table top 'sections 10 may be moved f toward andV engage each other. VFurther-v more, when the extension lleaf is not in use, the section 19 of said extension leaf is iniio verted, while the sectionhQi is not. It: is
to be noted that the hingesl of thel slats of the section 19 of the extension leaf arev of the ordinary type, in which case the slats of the section 19 will move pivotally relative to each other as the lugs ofrsaid slats follow' the'se'inilcircular portions 18 of theguide grooves 16, when inovinguthe section 19 of the extension leaf upwardly between the adjacent edgesof` the table top sections. Owing to the upper face of the section 20 of the extension leaf, at alltimes, remaining uppermost, the adjacent lower portions connection of the slats ofthe section 20, isV provided with'anelongated bearing 24 forv the hinge pin, thereby allowing looseness ofV playV between the hinged connections of the slats ofthe section 20. `When making the table longer, the table sections l0 are separated, sufficiently, so that their adjacent edges will be liush with the adjacent faces of the strips or bars 6. The section 20 of the extensionleaf is then moved in the direction of the arrow a, until the lugs of the stripsor slats of the section 20 engage the guide grooves 14. The section 19 of the extension leaf. is then moved in the direc'- tion of the arrow 7o, the lugs of the slats of the section 19 following the semi-'circular portions 1S of the guide grooves 16, until said lugs engage the opposing guide grooves 14,'then the two'se'ctions 19 and'QO of thel extension leaf are arranged in their proper positions, as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and L.
T he invention having been set forth, what is'claimed asiiew and useful isi-'- r1. ln an extension table, a supporting pedestal, a pair of extensible tabletop sections, means on the pedestal and with which the table to-p sections have sliding connections, whereby the sections may be moved toward and from each other, an extension leaf consisting' of two sections, said means 1 having a compartment for the extension leaf, the adjacent edges of the table top sections-A having guide grooves, said compartment upon its opposite faces having two sets of guide grooves, and means on the Iopposite edges of the two sections of the leaf engaging said two sets of grooves, said last-iiientioned grooves having curved and inclined portion's'at corresponding opposite endsnierging into the grooves of the table topsections, whereby said leaf sections may be niove'dbetwee'n said table top lsections therebv forming a troiivh said bars havin .1 a :u n
lateral pieces,Y extensible table top sections having sliding connections with said lateral pieces,"the adjacentfedges of the table top sections having guide grooves, the inner opposing side faces of the trough haiing two sets of guide grooves, each set extending horizontally A and inlpa'rallelism, the corresponding kopposite ends of which merge into the grooves of the .table top sections, and a eXible extension table leaf consistingV of two parts having means engaging the two sets of grooves of the trough and adaptedto engage the grooves of the table top sections when said sections arenextended.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this' specification in the presence of two subscribingwitnesses-`A Y n MRRS HEYMANN.
