IMPROVEMENT IN CHALK-HOLDERS FOR BlLLlARD-TABLES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,371, dated March 5, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE W. MORRIS, of Minonk, in the county of WVoodi'ord and in the State of Illinois,haveinvented an Improvement in Chalk-Holders for Cues of Billiard-Tables; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, in which like letters of reference refer to like parts, and in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation. Fig. 2, a vertical sectional elevation taken in the plane a a of Fig. 3 and Fig. 3, an under-side view.

Like letters in the different parts of the drawing indicate like parts.

This invention consists in a bell-shaped elastic receptacle, having a cavity large enough to retain a lump or cube of chalk for chalking billiard-cues, and having a cord for the suspension of the same from the billiard-table, and made of rubber or other elastic material, both to retain the chalk, and to obviate the scratching or bruising of the table or tablelegs when thrown down after use, and to prevent the chalk from being wasted, and hinder the players from using it on any part of the one but the point. For this purpose the chalk does not project beyond the cavity, the rim of the holder also preventing the chalk from slipping off the point of the one, and also from being removed until well used up.

A represents the holder, having a cavity, a, deep and wide enough to retain a block of chalk, B, the elasticity of the rubber holding it serurely. From the back of this cavity passes a hole, b, for retaining a cord, 0, for suspending the holder from the table or other place. The cord may terminate into a screw-eye, d, for insertion into the required place.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The chalk-holder for billiard-tables, con sisting of a rubber or elastic stock or holder, A, whose socket a, being elastic, will holdthe chalk without any additional device for the purpose, as heretofore, substantially as set forth.

2. The rubber or elastic stock A, as con structed with socket a and hole I), in connection with the manner of attaching it to the cord, as shown and described.
